I am now faced with the task of cutting up a 68 Dart two door body and hauling it to the scrapper myself. Due to meth heads in my area stealing scrap metal and selling it to the metal recyclers, the recyclers no longer purchase vehicle body shells from private citizens. Because the car has no wheels or suspension and is NOT in the street. for liability reasons nobody else will come down my driveway and get the car.

I have a short bed pickup and a 4x8 trailer. I am looking for recommendations of where to cut the Dart body apart to make the handling of the pieces easiest. I know some of you guys have cut up and scrapped A bodies before, do you have any suggestions and tips?

Been there done that...easier with torch or plasma cutter.... if you've already removed the doors

Cut the bathtub off the firewall, cut the radiator support and that should all fit in your truck....cut at the roof pillars, and use that to cap your load when you tie it down....the rest of the body look for the thinnest non reinforced areas and cut along those areas (i.e. through the trunk pan not the sub frame rails)....

Sadly China is not taking scrap so it's about 3 cents a pound in the Pac NW...but the hull of a late 60's A-body with no doors, no front clip, etc... is about 1000 lbs...so you might be able to make your gas money and some of the down payment back on your truck....

Dang, that's why nobody wanted it! I have it up for free on Craigsllist, so maybe someone will still grab it.

Torch or plasma would be nice, but all I have is my Sawzall. I will look for the soft spots and try and keep the chunks to manageable sizes.

When a friend cut up our totaled race car, the scrap metal dealer wanted to see evidence of a VIN number and collect or view the title.

YEP! A lot of them are doing the CYA, and requiring a VIN and title anymore.

I have the title, but the dash was sold before I got the car, so no dash vin is left. Was the VIN anywhere else? Stamped on frame etc...?

Secret Squirrel location of last 8 under back seat floor pan front support on some models after 1973....sometimes hard to tell, espcecially if the factory 'tarred' this over....
