I have, here, an 1984 D150 with a slant in it. The distributor has no vacuum pod on it. I'm assuming the advance must be electric some how.

Also I cannot find a vacuum diagram on the web for this distributor and engine combination.

No vacuum advance distributor is part of Lean Burn system. Additional advance over mechanical was controlled by Lean Burn computer.

Take a look at your carburetor for a ported vacuum tap, it sees vacuum above throttle plates, not manifold vacuum below throttle plates.
