Help! Help! I'm being repressed! (and now back to your regularly scheduled programming, and time for the penguin on top of your television to explode)
Thank you. I was waiting for someone to pick that up. :-)

Peasant: Oo are the Britons?

Arthur: You and I are Britons. We are ALL Britons, and I am your king.

Peasant: How did you get to be king? I didn't vote for you...

Arthur: The Lady of the Lake.... held aloft, Excaliber...

And on it goes...

Lou

Thanks, I'm a python nut. Haven't seen much in over 20 years, but saw it so much back then I can remember all of it. My Alfa Romeo is "Dinsdale" and my VW Camper was "Spiny Norman."

You DO have the world's only three sided vinyl record, right?

Strange women lurking in ponds distributing weaponry is no basis for a system of government.

Be quiet!

Supreme executive power can only be wielded by a mandate from the masses!

Will you shut up!

Look, if I went around saying I was Emperor because some moistened bink lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

The movie that scares the carp out of me is Brazil. Get the Criterion Collection set - watch Gilliam's version. I fear we are heading in the direction of Brazil and the documentary "Idiocracy" combined . . . .

I pulled my distributor today and got the extra bit out. She does run now, but still hesitantly, kind of herky jerky a bit, and bogs more often than not when I just lightly touch the accelerator. Can't tell if that's carburetor tuning that needs to happen, or if I need to keep focus on the ignition system. I know the new spark plugs I had put in got crusty pretty fast in the running-too-rich way, so I'm going to put another set in there soon but with the way it's running I can't tell if that actually is the problem now (fouled spark plugs) or if it's still the carb, or some combination of the two. :roll:
Will keep on testing and experimenting..

Question whilst I'm experimenting:

I'm putting in a rockauto order for some things and wanted to replace the distributor vacuum advance (the port looks shady, as if it had either been smashed and reopened or cut off.. either way, I'd rather replace it), and the choke pull-off on my carburetor. These are the parts that Rockauto has listed for each:
Fuel/Air : Carburetor Choke Pull Off
AIRTEX / WELLS 1C1172 {#24740, 2585783, 2933182, CP425}
270 Model; GT Model; 1BBL Carter

Vacuum Advance
AIRTEX / WELLS 4V1082 {#1881944, 1889768, 2084652, 2095991, 2098177, 2098184, 2098203, 2098209, 2098298, 2098664, 2275561, 2444101, 2444398, 2444456, 2444911, 2642263, 2642764, 2642777, 2642801, 2808792, 2808794, 2808795, 4V1282, 88924966, CV1135, JV1569}
Fits 270 Model; GT Model; Chrysler Distributor
Or Automatic trans.; Base Model; US and Canada
Or 270 Model; GT Model; US and Canada, with Automatic Transmission

Neither mentions my actual Dart model or carburetor. Will these parts still fit for my use, or does anybody know the correct part numbers?

Thanks!

You've got a Holley carburetor; that Carter pull-off won't fit. I could swear I have a couple of new pull-offs of the type you need, but I can't look for them til Saturday; that might be too long a wait for you. In that case, this is the one you need.

Vacuum advance: The one you found is fine. It's possible your car spent time in California, which would explain the abused vacuum advance port.

Finally had some time to keep tinkering. I put new spark plugs, distributor cap, and ballast resistor in. Also installed a pertronix I system because I was interested in trying it out.
Now when I go to start the car it'll crank a few times then backfire and I have no idea why.
I'm considering taking the pertronix out and putting the points back in to see if that changes anything but I'm not sure it would. I've also never had to deal with a backfiring problem so I'm really not sure where to start looking to fix it.
Ideas?

Retard the timing a little bit and try again.
