I ran the part number through their on line part fit checker, they say it does not fit a 1975 Dodge Dart
Yep... This is a growing problem, where people paid to program the database are just that programmers, they've never seen the car, don't know that the same caliper style was used from 1973 to 1980 on the A/F body, and more if you go with the M/J body.... (and most of the time some stores will not know if the unit was loaded with metal or phenolic pistons)
It's one of the reasons I keep a junkyard crossmatch in my mind so if the know-it-all, min. wage desk clerk says it won't fit, I go to the alternate that will fit... I had an O Reilly's clerk who thought she was 'all-that' tell me that the caliper for the 1974 was not the same as the one for 1976.... which might have been true 40 years ago when there was a bore difference at the time on the OEM unit...but when she pulled the two part numbers off the back shelf they were the same part in a different numbered box...piston was the same size...
To this day, if the kid behind the counter is having too much fun I will pull the alternate make, and see if they can make the connection on a simple part (i.e. peanut plugs.... "Need 6 plugs for my Boss 351.... Isn't that a V-8? Never mind kid, my ride washed out 6 of the plugs so I have to replace them. Is it in the parking lot?!?!? Yeah kid, but I need the plugs so I can limp it back home and change them out.... a few minutes later, he's scratching his head as I pile into the Duster and take off.... the best by far is ordering a slant six forged crank kit....the kid at autozone had to ask what was in the box, it weights more than a chevy crank?!?!? I said better gas mileage, and huffed it over my shoulder and out the door I went...
You gotta be your own advocate and take time to flip through the online catalogs for Dorman and various other vendor/manufacturers just to see what is there. The bad part is many over the counter places may not be able to get that part number through their warehouse and just tell you "Not Available"...Had this happen with /6 Dorman distributor gears a couple years back...thankfully Rock Auto likes it when it's bought in larger lots and it's drop shipped from Dorman to your door.
So take heart, and much like going to the doctor, you have to be your own advocate... and gratefully our community has a plethora of knowledgeable people that are there to help.
