Hey, all. I have a 66 Barracuda, 225ci. Engine trouble for the first time I have had the car in 8 years! I put the key in and it turns over, sounds like it is starting, then dies. So long as the key is turned sounds like it is running, but as soon as I turn the key off, the engine quits. Any ideas? Nothing obvious under the hood, all looks in perfect shape, nothing leaking, and I had only days earlier gotten a fresh tank of gas and drove 40 miles with no obvious problems.

First thing to check is the ballast resistor feeding the ignition coil.

Also check the bulkhead connector for corrosion. My '66 showed the same symptoms and it was the light blue wire in the connector.

Classic failed ballast resistor symptoms. Unplug wires at each end of resistor, check its continuity. No electron flow = new ballast resistor.

Got no way of checking continuity?

Connect each female connector formerly attached to ballast resistor by a jumper wire, start engine. If it runs when switch returns to 'run' or 'on' once off of starter position it's new resistor time.
