My workshop manual states for Assembling Wiper Motor......correct indexing of the contact plate on the nylon gear is important............ Index the contact plate on the nylon gear with the slot pointing in the opposite direction to the motor crank arm.

What does this mean?

What is, or where is the slot, what does it look like?

Thanks.

Not sure I can help but, do you have a 2 speed or a 3 speed?

If it's a 3 speed wiper motor they are probably talking about the large gear and latch assembly with the switch plate assembly. The locator tab on the outside edge of the switch plate has to sit in the correct slot (1 of 3?) depending on model of car. Your book should have a picture to go off of.

I have a single speed wiper.

I have fixed the problem - removed the plastic gear and replaced it 180 degrees (I previously installed it 180 degrees out by error).

Also moved the switch plate about 1/16".
