Ok after car not be able to start for two weeks, she decided to start right up yesterday. Drove around after letting her run for about 45 minutes in the drive way.

Seemed to be missing, so I pulled the plugs and found that number 6 was damp but still shiny like new, no carbon. So while running I pull the plug wire and put her near the block and sure enough we have spark. I swapped out that plug with a new one but still missing.

I have not yet pulled the valve cover off to check the valves and such. This could be the source of my knocking noise.

Any thoughts of what it might be. I'm still reading through the books looking for answers.

Adjust the valves. Sounds like the exhaust is tight.

Has the car been sitting for a long time? Is the gas old? If so you may have stuck an intake valve and bent the pushrod. My 1964 Valiant's 170 ran like poo with 3 bent intake pushrods. Thankfully nothing else was damaged.

I bought the car in December and according to the guy before me he bought it in April and drove to Carlisle from Harrisburg quite a few times. Before that the last time it was on the road before that it was inspected was 2001.

I've posted this before, but do you have the vacuum tap on the exhaust manifold runner on the #6 cylinder? My '73 has a tap that provides vacuum to the brake booster and vacuum reservoir.

If you have a leak in any of the systems attached to that tap, you wont get compression in that cylinder.

It took some searching but I discovered that my power brake booster had a leak...replaced that, fixed the problem.

The first test is to cap off all the lines running from that tap.

Hope this helps!

No, #6 still has compression, the misfire problem is a result of that brake booster vacuum leak causing a very lean mixture entering #6 which makes for poor to no combustion.

Like others have said, check for sticking valve, and lash adjustment.

Right, I should've said combustion, not compression, but I still think it's worth testing, it *would* be a miss on #6

Also, it's an easy test.

Good luck!
