Just came upon this from the EVBC list, seems promising. Anybody seen this before?

Looks interesting. The 9" drum spindles are awful weak looking, though. I'd try 'em if I didn't already have my money tied up in the SSBC kit I've been using for two years.

That would be an intersting swap, but the 9" spindles spook me a little bit too. By the time you buy the adapter brackets for $95, and then buy all the GM stuff plus a disc master, and have the rotors redrilled, it would still get kinda pricey.

Well you'd have to buy those parts anyway if doing a mopar disc brake upgrade. I believe overall it would be cheaper because you don't have to change any front end parts. I don't think redrilling rotors would be that costly would it?

That being said, I don't mind the additional work on the front end, and would still do the mopar upgrade if I had known about this before I put on the current KH disc setup on my car.

One of the reasons to do a disc swap is to get away from the puny 9" spindles.

I didn't look at the 9" spindles that closely when I took mine out. I guess they really are that bad.

Also, using a different lower ball joint nets you some strength in that the bolts holding it to the spindle are bigger, especially important with the increased breaking force. Read somewhere, believe on moparts, someone had seen the bolts sheer off on the smaller lbj/spindle.

I suppose the real question is whether this is really an upgrade from the 9" drum brakes in a daily driver non-racer. I tend to think it is, with some caveats:
Look the knuckles over very carefully for cracks or other damage.
Rebuild the suspension while you're at it, even if you could make the modification without complete disassembly.
New ball joints are a good idea, as are new studs. If they're gonna be small, make sure they're good!
I'd prefer the Mopar upgrade, a la Condran, but this might be a good alternative if you can't find a 73-76 donor. It wouldn't have to do much to be an improvement over the 9" drums.

The later model A-body upgrade is so cheap , easy and effective its hard for me to understand this kit. If the small unicast setup wont do there is always the bigger B-body (11") upgrade for cheap.
Im not saying this kit isn t cool. Im saying there is a better alternative.

IF you can find a donor with decent parts for a fair price, it's not too bad. Appropriate 73-76 A-bodies are a little scarce in my area right now. Plenty of Aspen/Volares, though! So, I'll keep on looking ...

Yikes! If they are scarce in Texas, think how hard it is in Canada!

I like the kit... theres tons of S-10s in the boneyard. It makes a lot more sense up here.

Oh, I'm sure they have them over in Dallas/Fort Worth (300 miles) or around Houston, maybe Austin, etc ... There's an old car specialty yard north of Denton (300+ miles) that has the parts but wants a pretty penny for them. Out here at the base of the Panhandle, the yards tell me they don't have them. Those where I can cruise the yard in don't have anything much. I do know where a '64 and a '66 are, but they don't do me any good on brakes. (Reminds me, I need to price the trans and shifter on that '64, and maybe the engine too ...)
I want to do the later model upgrade, but I want to do it right - bushings, shocks, wheels and tires, new hoses and (probably) rotors, differential to match the bolt pattern, new driveshaft to replace my ball and trunion unit, etc. I don't see it as a cheap step, but a good one.
