I adjusted the valves over the weekend and on my way to work Tuesday, the screw on the #1 exhaust rocker almost backed all the way out, causing the push rod and lifter to pop out.

I noticed that I wasn't getting the "snap" when adjusting many of the rockers over the weekend. Is there a fool proof method of making sure I don't run into this problem again? It's kind of hard to trust the vehicle to get me from point A to B at this point. Thanks.

I squish the rocker body where the srcrew goes through with vice grips....

I have also used 3/8 NF half nuts as jam locks.

Too many people who were born on third base actually believe they've hit a triple.

On one of my friends race cars he had the same problem. He took a file and made groves in the nut and after getting it adjusted wraped it with stainless steel wire. The wire went around the arm, through the groves, and back around the arm. I dident like the idea of loose metal floating around in the motor. He said as long as you use a hard enough wire, and replace it every time you adjust the valves, it was safe.

Yikes...thanks fellas it doesn't look like there's a non scary fix here. I'll start by marring up some of the screws since they seem easier to find than the rockers themselves. Kicking myself for throwing away a complete rocker shaft a few years ago. Had no idea they weren't made anymore.

The shafts are still available, but be carefull, most of the catalogs are wrong and list the hydraulic shaft for both the hydraulic engine, and the solid engines. The shafts are different. The solid lifter shaft is much more expensive. Adj rocker arms are very hard to find. Hydraulic rockers are available.

Good info Charrlie. Looks like Rockauto has 5 rockers (3 left after my purchase) and the seller on ebay who had them is out. I can't find them anywhere else. Asked for a quote on a site where they rebuild rockers out of Redding, CA and they never answered me so apparently making money is not one of their concerns.
