Hi All. I know this subject has been covered, however a new opportunity has presented itself to get these made, possibly with new technology.
I've been in contact with a company that is willing to make a few for a very reasonable cost . We have an NOS gasket that they said could be used as a pattern, however they would really like a block for fit testing. Since my aluminum block project is already installed, I can't send it out. If anyone has a useable block they are willing to loan out for the production of these gaskets, maybe we can work out a deal. Please IM me or email me at pito63@msn.com

This could be a game changer!

More info, please. What kind of gasket does this company propose to make? A copy of the original in the same materials? Something better with newer materials?

Our early discussion has indicated a multi layer design with a stainless fire ring. They 've done many different aluminum, open deck gaskets. Which is why they would like a block.

That's promising. They'll need to be careful with the placement and crushability of the fire ring so it doesn't place fatal stress on the aluminum/iron junction of the cylinder barrels.

Yes, it is , they said they could make it based on just an original gasket, but they weren't quite sure how the cylinders were made ( iron cast in aluminum )
So I asked if having a block would help, hence my quest for a donor.
By the way - WAKEMAN says hello!

Sounds interesting.

This kind of project has started and died many times already. I have a block but am hesitant to send it anywhere. Last time I did that, I never got the block back and the person did nothing with it. Argh. I do have another block and gasket I could potentially send, after my work madness subsides in late April.

Where is the company? What is the name and what have they done before? How much might the final gasket cost and how many would you/they make or have available?

Thanks,

Lou

Obviously there's some risk in this kind of venture. like anything this may not work at all, but we're willing to give it a real go. From what we've talked about with these guys the initial tooling cost has gone down. so the savings is there (for now). But I understand if your not up to blindly sending a block out. In that case are you willing to sell me one?

The perceived risk zooms way up when basic, reasonable questions like "Where is the company? What is the name and what have they done before?" go pointedly unanswered.

look, a friend of mine is in the industry, but since promises have been made in the past and none have been successful, he prefers me not announcing what he's done, or where he's at until he has some real answers for us. Please respect that. I can say this, Technology, for boosted, open deck blocks and gaskets has come a long way. The risk/cost is mine, I don't need a good block just a block. I'm not going to get rich off this, I'm just trying to do something cool for this engine, using a unique resource. I'm having prototypes made regardless.

I totally get that, and I respect it—I don't doubt you, I'm just pointing out that the lack of that kind of info will probably scare off some would-be participants. :-(

Cool I'm glad you understand. I just don't want to put that info out on the public forum just yet. If someone is truly interested in participating , I'm happy to give specifics privately. I'm sure there are a lot of questions regarding this. But I don't want to get everyone into a speculative Q & A until I have real numbers. Any help from this community is greatly appreciated, and hopefully we can make this happen.

I would suggest purchasing or at least deposit as collateral and pay back when finished.
