It would have to be light years better in performance
I don't know, but have wondered, that in these back to back comparisons if,

the users did not have years of tuning and development in their 'clifford - 4 bbl ' set up, then swapped in a AussieSpeed for an afternoon and reported no singificant improvement...

all fuel systems need to be tuned,,,

just saying.

Well, that works both ways. Aussiespeed has never done a product comparison between his manifolds against Clifford or anyone else. He doesn't even have any performance dyno or tracking testing results of just what his products can do or have done. Just sayin'....

I believe Doug did a test of the long runner AS against his Hyper Pak. IIRC, results were "mixed".

The one thing that soured me on the AS intakes was there were a lot of claims made, but not one shred of data posted to back any of the claims up.

I believe both Doug and Mark Ethridge retuned their carbs and still saw reductions in performance (although not large). I have done the same with TBI tuning a short runner on my 64 Dart and 500 2bbl tuning on a long runner.

I believe one problem is the runner cross sections are too small to work well in higher HP applications. I would love to see/test "big bore"versions of these.

Lou

Has anyone collected and posted the cross sectional area of various intake manifolds?

the kick with intake manifolds with increased runner lengths is: they are able to give a performance boost at a specific RPM band.

In a comparison of a long runner intakes like a Hyperpac or Aussie Speed to a Clifford, in a max RPM condition, like a drag race, the test would not match the long runner manifold to the event where it could produce an advantage.

If the comparison was to measure vehicle acceleration across a specific speed range, say 45 to 60, and the vehicle was geared to match engine RPM to the range where the long runner intake would provide a benefit, there is engineering calculations that provide evidence that the long runner manifold would out perform a short runner manifold.

for drag racing,, wide-high RPM conditions, short runner
for road racing, acceleration out of a low speed corner, acceleration on to a highway on ramp,, and if the vehicle RPM target is tuned to the runner length, a long runner manifold

and,, the more the runner cross section is increased on a tuned long tube intake runner , the more the strength of the pulse signal that the tuned long tube runner gets its advantage from, is decreased.

some time ago I worked through the calculations that correlated intake runner wave bounce to runner length,, I'll dig those back out,

the article below does a good job of explaining what a tuned intake runner can do.
