I got myself a late hemi Ram manual transmission starter for my not-terribly-secret, but not ready for prime time, project. $45 and $25 core. I figure a small, light, reliable, powerful starter for $70 is fair.

My apologies for the brief post, but I was, and am, using my phone. This starter I found through car-part.com and it was at an LKQ in Idaho. They shipped it for free to Portland where I picked it up. Thanks to Dan for the original research and Rick and Bryan for the fit and operational testing! I'm going to drill out the threaded hole, give it a quick cleaning and run it!

I'm not sure my digital kitchen scale will tell me directly, but I'll try it later. If I had to guess I'd say 5 to 6 lbs. I bought it mostly for its size and power.

I need to recalibrate my internal scale. With the little stub of battery cable the wreckers left on the starter it's 3 lb 3oz!

The lightest of the old mini starters appears to be around 7 lbs. In this 2001 Hot Rod article the late model starter used was 10 lbs 7 oz and the original "3257" Chrysler starter was 15 lbs 9 oz. So the weight savings now available is about 12 lbs 6 oz. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/261 ... e-install/

great upgrade for a baby running a SM (v8) about a creeper but not so great for someone like me (stock) who can take out and put back in 15 pound starter with 1.5 hands in about 5 minutes.

I might question your real scale, Josh. I just bought a Denso reman version of this starter and it is 7.0 lbs on a nice digital scale. The factory Mopar one is 1/2 as light??

Be careful with weight reduction plans, folks...

Still, 7 lbs is 1 lb lighter than my lightest "old" mini starter and 4 lbs less than the mini starter I pulled out of the 68 Dart.
