Has anyone seen these intakes on ebay?

I bought one for a TBI conversion project on my '84 W100. It appears to be a NOS intake from the 80's trucks. Looks like a good deal.

Look closer at the 3rd pic. You can see it is two separate cast parts mated together. I wouldent use this. The rough casting on the edges are also a worry as a car company wouldent make a part this rough.

Actually, that is exactly how Chrysler made most of the aluminum intakes, one and two barrel. The two aluminum pieces were welded togetehr with an electronic beam. The result is what you see- messy and porous seams. These intakes are known to leak at the seams and eventually crack next to the EGR port in the floor of the intake. $100 is too much for one of thse. You are better off getting an Offy or Clifford.

Now, the one piece cast aluminum factory intakes are worth getting.

I already have it in my hands. It looks exactly like the oem intake on my truck.

I really can't see anyone reproducing this intake. That is why I think it is NOS, plus the ad says "new surplus". If the seller is trustworthy.

I was looking for an Offy when I found this one. I placed a best offer of $75 and was immediately accepted. If anyone wants one, offer less than $75.

I guess that makes since. My original one was cast and had no seam or rough casting on the edges.

I guess I wasn't clear. Yes, those are OEM factory original Miopar manufactured intake manifolds. The problem is that the method used to weld the two pieces of aluminum together is known to have created porous welds. These can be filled by using thick layers of epoxy paint or JB weld type filler on the seams. Another problem I have seen with thee intakes is after several decades of heat cycles the floor of the intake cracks next to the EGR port below the carb.

Given the weld and cracking isues, I think you are better off getting a factory one piece cast aluminum intake (harder to find, but they are out there), an Offy intake, or a Clifford intake. Anything more exotic than those isn't worth it on a street and most track driven vehicles.

A lot of 80's trucks and vans had the cast one piece manifolds.

The one you are talking about should be really cheap, especially for a 1 barrel manifold. I have thrown a couple away. $100 is way high IMO

Thanks for the info Reed. I was aware of the porosity issues but not the cracking issues.

This is a new, never installed part and I paid $75 for it. It has an extra tapped hole in the #6 runner that I will need for an IAT sensor and I will have to enlarge the carb hole to the size of my TBI unit.

I was looking for an Offy intake but $300+ was too much for this project. I also have two one piece cast aluminum intakes off of feather duster engines but I don't want to waste them on this project or modify them in any way. Thanks again.

Have it bead blasted and paint it with epoxy paint. That has been done successfully to seal them up.

I ran a 2 barrel version for years,,,,,super light....easy to seal.....cheap to replace. I never even painted mine.

If you have tried to seal a plate on a 4 barrel these dont seem so bad.

They are not very pretty though....

The reason those manifolds have such an ugly looking weld is that there is some sort of black sealer in the joint between the two halves. If you slice one up with a bandsaw it's easy to see.

Ran a 2bbl 2-piece job for 8yrs., no EGR, no problems from -10deg to 98deg
and a ton of miles unpainted. Yea it ain't pretty..........
