I'm sure with you playing with the car before you took it to the track, have you tried to stall the converter in the driveway or in the street to test the stall and to see if it would build boost. How long does it take to get more boost built up than what you are seeing at the drag strip?

Keep up the good work Bill, and keep us posted! Anxious to hear how it works.

Dart 270,

Here are the summit part numbers I ordered:

NEX-20421-10 Nitrous Express system, 35-50-75-100-125-150 hp

EDL-72176 Edelbrock purge system

ARC-1402 time-delay 40-amp relay .1-sec. adustable to 1 full second system activator

All Summit part numbers and all were shipped immediately.

Not cheap, but cheaper than the alternative (new converter or new turbo.)

Hope this helps...

Bill
for what you spent on all of that you probably could have gotten a slightly smaller exhaust housing. or if you are running divided, a quick spool valve.

Turbine housings aren't that expensive.

Thanks, Rick! The nitrous equipment order arrived today (Wednesday) and will be installed late this week, I hope. It seemed simple (on paper,) but, that box is HEAVY... so, I'm wondering why...

Guess I'll find out tomorrow... lol!

Thanks for the excellent link, Josh!

My problem is that I am not aware of the way this turbo mechanism goes together... I need a crash-course in the vagaries of impeller wheel/housing engineering as regards sizing and appropriate fitment of the various dimensions used to make this apparatus work like I want it to.

I have not been educated in sizing of turbos at all, and am wondering, for example, to get a faster-spooling turbo, is it just a matter of downaizing the scroll-housing, or is it necessary to also change-out the impeller for a smaller one?

I don't even know enough about how this system works, to talk intelligently about it. I had asked a ball-park figure from "The G-Pop Shop," the only turbo shop I have talked to about this, and he was pretty sure it would cost me about $750.00 for what I wanted, but, that was for a whole new turbo like Ryan's. If I could have gotten what I wanted by just changing the exhaust housing, ahould ne not have suggested that?

I just am really ignorant about what is possible with what I have...

Bill

Junior, You're probably right, IF I knew what I was doing... but, I don't. I am sure that the right-sized turbo pieces would give me what I want and need, but in my ignorance, I didn't know what to "order" or how to install the right stuff... and was pretty sure this N20 system would give me what I need, so, I went with what I thoght would work.

I hope it WILL work... lol! I'll let everybody know....

Bill

How much boost does it have when you leave the starting line?
Only 3-4 pounds... not nearly enough. That's at 3,000 rpm.

It's had ample stall-start testing done in a variety of venues and has proven, conclusively, that the turbo and the converter are enough of a mismatch that something had to be done...

Now, we'll see if what I did, works.

I'm hoping...

Bill

you are running a turbonetics right? from what i hear they have excellent customer service. have the information for your turbo in front of you and give them a call and explain what you are looking to do. they should be able to set you up with a smaller housing that will fit your wheels.

Yes, it's a four-bolt flange, 66mm Turbonetics.

I have too much on my plate right now, but after I get this nitrous spool system sorted out, I'll definitely call them!

Thanks for the good advice!

Bill
