So I have recently decided to keep the 225 In my dart relatively stock. I would still like to do a few upgrades tho. But I will definitely keep it very mild.

One of the questions I have is will a 2bbl carb work alright with a stock 1bbl manifold with an adapter.

Another question is would installing a mild cam do much harm. Nothing extreme just like an rv cam. And should I replace any of the valve train if I do install it.

The current upgrades are brakes and electronic ignition. That's it. I plan on exhaust as well as the ones I asked about above. Any tips are appreciated.

If you want to keep it mild but are willing to upgrade the exhaust, the absolute single best thing you can do is increase your compression ratio. The stock cams are actually OK for a mild street driver. The single barrel carb likewisee will actually work OK on a mild engine.

You want to do the measurements and calculations to achieve a DYNAMIC (nto static) compression ratio of about 8:1.

Before a cam change I would:

1. Dial in the timing curve and carburetor jetting.
2. Replace the exhaust system for one which flows better.
3. Work on intake breathing. For me this means an intake manifold and carburetor swap. Carb adapters lead to hood clearance problems and/or air cleaner problems.
4. Raise the compression ratio.
5. Further increase intake breathing with a larger intake valve.

Doing these things car really wake up the engine and driving experience.

Thanks for the tips. I need a new carb anyway so I was thinking of switching to a 2bbl. And for the exhaust I was gonna talk to my exhaust guy and see what he thinks but I'm thinking 2 1/4 dual exhaust with glass packs. Do you see any problems with just those 2 upgrades. I'd rather not spend much $ so I wasn't sure about the carb adaptor vs new intake. Is it possible to install a carb adaptor on a stock 225 with a small air cleaner?

The height of the adapter causes air cleaner problems. A small, restrictive air cleaner is a problem.

Single 2.25" exhaust is all you need and you'd probably tire from the glass pack noise in a hurry. If you want a little sound without it being obnoxious the Walker Super Turbo is a good choice. I got compliments on mine.

I second the notion of increasing the compression ratio. Makes a big difference even with no other changes to the engine.

You'll need a new intake manifold, probably along the lines of: http://slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm If you want to go with a 2bbl. Without a new intake, the additional height of the carb adapter combined with the non-oem aircleaner will cause major hood clearance issues.

If you go this route, try and find someone who's selling the intake and the linkage as well, it'll save you some fabrication time.

If you don't get the kickdown linkage, the Lokar kickdown cable works great.

The other big issue with runnign a two barel carb on a one barrel intake with the adapter is the opening for the carb in the intake is a choke point that restricts the airflow.

Okay thanks for the tips. I already talked to the exhaust guy near me. I'm gonna do duals just because I love the look. And I'm okay with the noise level of glass packs. And I'm definitely gonna go with a new manifold. Any suggestions on what manifold gets the best bang for its buck.
