My son and I made the trek up from Richmond VA to meet this so called "Great Bunch of Guys"...

.
I was not disappointed.

Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming to us - especially Derek for teaching my son how to power brake and stage your 72 Valiant!

Rick and Patti, Thanks so much for your first rate hospitality.

Congrats to Ryan and Norm for their bracket wins!

And to Will Burns - What a way to impress the crowds!

Thanks to Rick and the track staff for a great race.

I want to thank every one who has supported me in this crazy quest, those who were at the track and those who were not. The list is long and every one has helped. Labor, parts, thoughts, ideas, kind words, cheers, thanks, and even the guys with "real race cars" that think I have lost my mind. You all keep me going, and we are not done.

It felt great to go some rounds and in the nines with a slant six made it all the better.

Sometimes at the track I am very involved and cant talk to everyone who stops by but I do appreciate you coming by to say hi.

Thanks again to all
Will

Eights soon Dennis

This one was a good one to be at for sure! To see something that is the first ever, or biggest ever, or in this case, fastest ever Slant 6 run, was way way cool.

I think back on all the years that I was raising a family, buying a home, and didn't have the time or money to go racing, that I watched from the pages of the SSRN.(Thanks Seymour) I always longed for the day when I could be a part of this great bunch of racers. Now a lot of the names that I watched from afar, I have met and raced against. Many of the biggest and best names in our group are also the nicest folks you ever want to meet. Me, I am happy to just be a small part of this great bunch of folks. To get to see Will's history making run (from many angles) on Sunday has got to be one of the highlights in all of Slant 6 racing! I'm glad I got to see it. I almost wish I was in the stands and not racing so I could have watched him more.

And just for the record, I went first in one of the rounds. When I came back the return road to the pits, it passes right behind the starting line. I stopped and Will was making a run and with my open headers and doors and windows closed I could here Will's massive slicks squealing like crazy when it shifted into second gear, and he was bouncing off the rev limiter. Truly impressive!  I believe without too much trouble, he will bury that 8 second mark!

Will - thank you for energizing our group! We need this. Maybe this will give some old racers the bug to dig out their cars. Let's hope so.

Also we had a really good turnout, but do not be mistaken; We could easily have 22-24 cars here. We had 4 people here without their cars to watch. Two that I know of who stayed home because of rain and two other long haulers who did not make it. You can do the math.

I am having computer problems but will try and post some pictures soon!

Rick

PS. Will, As soon as you hit the 8's, I'll come up with a tee shirt for you. Somethin like "Slant 6 Racing's Fastest man on the planet" Anyone want to buy some shirts!

Thanks Rick and Patti for putting on such a great event. It was just like the old days having so many cars and seeing so many people excited about slant 6 racing.
It makes me feel very optomistic about our series future. Even better there are more people with cars planned or under construction. Big congrats to Will on his world record runs in his awesome Cuda. Congrats also to Ryan for taking his 4 spd. truck to the win proving you don't have to have a 904, and Brian for going to the finals also. Congrats to Norm for coming out of retirement to guide the Slanted Attitude Dart to the winners circle, and Greg for going to the finals too. I am pleased with my cars performance running 12.08 on gas. Kay thinks If we can get the driver to quit making mental mistakes maybe it can win a round or two in the future.
See everyone in Bristol for round 2.

Ron

I regret not being there, however I hope to see the fastest slant six at Bristol. Now that Mason Dixson fall race is in the record books I hope that most racers can make it to Bristol. I look forward to seeing old friends and meet some new ones. Congrats to all and I enjoyed the pictures.
