Ladies and Gentlemen,… Start your Engines!!!

The 2016 Slant 6 Drag Racing season is about to begin and we have a whopping 26 races across the country!! Team Green has created two opportunities for more of the Mid-West racers to get involved with new races at Centerville, AR and Tulsa, OK.

The racing kicks off with the usual Mopars At The Strip (MATS) in Las Vegas 18-20 March. They need an 8 car field to be in the program, so if you’re in the area bring your Slant powered vehicle and support their efforts.

There are so many races this year, bouncing all over the country that I’ll just list them all here:

18-20 March – Las Vegas, NV (1 race)
8-9 April – MoKan, KS (2 races)
14-15 May – Hagerstown, MD (2 races)
21-22 May – Redding, CA (2 races)
5 June – Sacramento, CA (1 race)
5 June – Centerville, AR (1 race)
25-26 June – Bristol, TN (2 races)
25 June – Woodburn, OR (1 race)
16-17 July – Samoa, CA (2 races)
22-23 July – Knoxville, TN (2 races)
13 August – Woodburn, OR (1 race)
19-20 August – Wilkesboro, NC (2 races)
16-17 September – Clay City, KY (2 races)
1-2 October – Redding, CA (2 races)
8-9 October – Hagerstown, MD (2 races)
5 November – Tulsa, OK (1 race)

There is a new twist being added this year as well. Someone (Okay,… Me) put a $100 Bounty on the 2015 Champion. I’ll kick in another $100 if this year’s Champion comes from West of the Mississippi River. In fact, let’s just add another $100 if this year’s Champion is from one of our Mid-Western states. There may be more added as the season progresses and more people decide to pitch in.

The race at MoKan had a nice turnout with 3 Rookies and an East Coaster in attendance. Once again Team Green showed us how to put on a good show and treat racers right.

Bill Barksdale takes the lead as our National Champion with a win in the 1/4 mile race on Saturday. He also won a round in the 1/8 mile race on Friday.

Another way that Team Green takes care of racers is providing both 1/8 and 1/4 mile racing opportunities.

First time Slant 6 racer James Soard takes over the #2 spot and lead as Rookie of the Year with his win on Friday.

Another first time Slant 6 racer Jeff Strahl finished second on Friday.

Rookie George Kelley returned to MoKan this year to race on Saturday.

East Coasters Rodney and Alanna Hargis travelled from Tennessee to show Team Green some support and for Rodney to earn some points in his bid for his 3rd National Championship. Rodney has been racing Slant 6's since before our series began and was our National Champion in the inaugural year in 1998 and again in 2005. Great turnout at Mason Dixon with a couple new records set. They aren't official until Seymour verifies them, but Will Burns' turbo Barracuda blew away the current A/S (Unlimited) by over a full second with his 9.006 run (That's 1/4 mile, not 1/8!! )

Lots of new Rookies joined the family at Mason Dixon as well with 4 new faces and one returning from last year.

I also added 20 points to Will Burns for blowing away the A/Unlimited 1/4 mile record with his Turbo Barracuda. He ran 9.263 @ 140.49 MPH. I believe his fastest run was a 9.09, but he needed another time slip within 1%. Could we have the first Door Slammer Slant 6 in the 8's this year!?
