I am ready to put the Super Six Air Cleaner on the BBD. I plan to hook up the big line to the valve cover for ventilation.

There is a vacuum line that (I think) ran from the top of the air cleaner down under the bottom. I think this opens up a little trap door to allow heat in for cold starts.

I was thinking about leaving this hose off. Is it necessary? If I need it, do I hook it to either one of the two small vacuum nipples on the bottom of the air cleaner?

If I leave it off, do I plug the two small vacuum nipples on the bottom of the air cleaner?

My truck has an 85 Slant Six with HEI Conversion and no emissions stuff at all.

Thanks, Craig

The big hose goes to the crankcase breather.

Thermostatic air cleaner.

The thermostatic air cleaner system is 100% benefit, 0% drawback. If you put it together intact and hook it up correctly, the car will run better and give better fuel economy. Vacuum hose from correct carburetor port to one side of the thermostatic sensor (the dingus with two vacuum nipples that stick down under the air cleaner, side by side). Vacuum hose from other side of thermo sensor to the round "flying saucer" on top of the air cleaner snorkel. Flex duct from underside of snorkel to sheetmetal heat stove surrounding the central collector area of the exhaust manifold. Parts missing or broken? Fix/replace, don't just rip out. If your thermo sensor doesn't work, I still have new ones.

See here and read this, too.

Thanks Dan. I thought about buying a Charcoal Canister but wasn't sure how to do it. If I buy the CP 3167, it is $120 + from RockAuto and it has four places for lines and I am not sure where they go.

I have a vent line to my fuel tank and I know that is one. I know where the ported vacuum port is on the bottom of my Carter BBD. Other than that I don't know what I would hook up.

Is there a simple two port charcoal canister out there that I just put in line from my fuel tank vent to the carb?

If there is not a simple system out there, is it worth spending the time and money and adding more junk under the hood? I guess it could beat down some of the gas smell. Will it eliminate it?

Thanks, Craig

The last link in my post above gives you all that info.

If you're calling it "junk under the hood", you didn't read the links (or you did, but didn't absorb/understand them).
