The local boneyard just received two Dodge Aspens circa1977. They both have slants and front disc brakes and I believe 7 1/4 rear ends. I am in need of parts to upgrade my 64 Valiant and believe the disc brakes are what I need. Any advice on removing them and what parts of them do I need. Secondly are there any issues with the rear end being interchangeable with the Valiant? Thank you in advance for your answers...Mark

The front brakes will work, but you will still need large ball joint upper control arms and new lower ball jounts. Then there is the disc/drum master cylinder, proportioning valve and plumbing.

The rear axle is much too wide. It doesn't bolt in nor does it fit under the body.

You will also need to get 5x4 1/2 inch bolt circle wheels 14 inch diameter or larger. The cars you have located probably would be good wheel donors.

So you need to get the upper control arms because they will accept the large upper ball joint.

Valiant Effort: What the two responses above are saying is that you will still need to find large-ball joint upper control arms from an A-body Mopar, for your '64. The front brakes from the Aspen(s) will then retro-fit onto yours.
To summarize; You should get the front brake and spindle sub-assemblies from one of the Aspens, as well as the master cylinder and prop valve. If you're lucky, and have the room on your firewall, you may be able to make the power brake booster fit in there, too.

The rear axle will need to be sourced from a '74 and later A-body, and still may be a touch wide, but workable.
I might suggest you get an 8.8 Ford rear from an Explorer. Maybe two of them, and swap axles and tubes around to make a short one.

Your interchange is for a 1973-1976 A-body, 7 1/4" will have 9 bolts in the gear cover...the 8 1/4" will have the 10 bolt cover.... with the amount of "mix and match" over the years from previous users of these vehicles and the fact that 5 lug on 4" bolt center (small bolt pattern) was used right up to the early production 1976 model year...make sure to look a the rear axle and bolt pattern 8 1/4" will always be LBP, 7 1/4" rears can be either....

Thanks DI. I see the error in my ways now. Pardon my ignorance I was thinking the Aspen was an A body I now know it's an f, thus the wider stance. Not many A body's show up around here or any early model.mopars for that matter. I will go pull the disc brakes although it's not a daily driver so I have no issues with existing drum configuration
I will also pull anything else that might be on them. Distributor, intakes, etc. Thanks again, Mark
