I'm trying to find a spot for an extra coolant temperature sensor - in this case for use with EFI. One easy option might be to put it in a spacer between the thermostat and the head, and tap the spacer. But while these exist in small block Chevy size, I haven't seen one sized to fit a slant six (or a later small block Mopar, which uses the same spacing). Is such a thing available off the shelf? Or are there good locations to drill and tap the water jacket?

There should be plenty of room on the head to install another sensor.

I did this and used the tapped head for my (mech.) gauge and used the thermostat housing for the original dash gauge. The dash gauge really just let me know when the thermostat was opening. :lol:

Later heads have an extra temperature boss on the head. You can drill an earlier head in the same place, but won't get as meany threads as you won't have the raised boss cast in.

What radiator do you have? My new radiator (Spectre) has 2 ports at the top that are plugged and ready for sensors.

I'm trying to get pre-thermostat temps, so a sensor in the radiator or radiator hose will be less than ideal. So far, the best idea from that thread is to get a sensor in the head-to-heater hose. Thanks to all who responded so far.

You could pull the block cleanout plug on the distributor side of the engine and put a temp sensor there. :shrug:

Update: I found a very small (Saturn) coolant temperature sensor and drilled the head behind the thermostat so the sensor will stick out vertically.
