I was reading that the remflex heat riser gasket is better than the metal gasket for between the intake and exhaust manifolds.....

But HOLY COW.......

It's $20 for that little gasket PLUS another $14 to ship it UPS ground!

That's $35...seem exorbitant for a gasket.....

Any lesser costly alternatives?

Don't really want to have to do this job twice, but holy cow......it's a GASKET.

You get what you pay for. You can try the metal shim gasket between the manifolds, but you most likely won't get a good seal.

Remflex costs more for a reason- it WORKS. Having tried Remflex gaskets on several slant sixes, now I will only use Remflex for the manflds and exhaust gaskets. I used the Felpro and Victor Reinz gaskets for years and the Remflex gasket is far superior.

I'm pretty sure you can get them through Summit and Amazon and save on the shipping big time. I tried them and will NEVER use anything else again.

Yes—like, the Remflex one will seal, and the stamped metal one won't.

How about $5. I probably have one out in the garage, but I'll have to check tomorrow for sure. How about this; you try and come to a slant 6 race sometime and I will give you the gasket for shipping. How's that? :lol: :lol:

$38 for both Intake/exhaust and heat riser is what I paid (+$4 shipping) and with the results, I would have no problem paying double that price!

Since the topic of the intake/exhaust gasket was brought up -- what about what I have seen referenced as the "aussie gasket" ?

I am also wondering about a gasket I have heard of made of Thermoseal/Klingersil --- folks seem to say it is reusable.

LOl, maybe overthinking to some.....

BUt I am on a budget on this build.....and a reusable gasket would be great hence my asking.

I use reusable header gaskets ("Percy", I think) on my 72 barracuda's headers and love them.

How often do you plan to pull the intake/exhaust? :shock: I test fit mine about (3) times after engine rebuild mounted them and that was it. I guess different builds and race engines might need more attention?

Yes it is very good and can be used over multitple times. The Remflex is much softer and that may be good in many if not most applications. But if you plan on removing the Intake/exhaust several times the stiffer green gasket may be a good choice. I have reused the one on my valiant at least 4 times.

Brian Droschak from your back yard just had them re-done And they were less than the Remflex.

Well hopefully NEVER again....LOL.

But we all know how that goes. If I can save $40 for a gasket in the event of a second "take" on the install, it would probably help since there would be a bigger (maybe costly) reason to go thru all that again.

But if there is a reason to not use something like the Thermoseal, then I would obviously consider that.

So I dont consider it OVERTHINKING so much as CAREFUL thinking.

I like options and exploring the best ones for me. :)

Remflex is your best option. The metal shim with copper RTV sealant on each side is a poor second choice.
