We got pretty far today....carb is mounted, rad is in......gotta plug in the wiring, do the belts........find and figure out the linkages/kickdown......and NEED AN AIR FILTER!

I had a super six cleaner lined up....paid the guy and then got a message a day later that his room mate accidentally ran over it with his motorcycle.....UGH!

I am at wits end.....

....have been told in another thread I can use a 2bbl 318 air cleaner.....but does anyone know if any of those have the enlarged part at the end of the intake snout for the big air ductwork? So far what I can see on ebay etc they do not....

I saw an 87 Dkaota 318 someone was parting out....it had a 2bbl...would those work aside from the ductwork?

I need the stoick style for emissions inspection.

I guess at this point I need to know what alternatives will work and wont work.........

I cant get over how hard it is to find these things......

Shadango,

I grew up near Pittsburgh (too bad about Big Ben's knee), let me ask my brother if he has a super six air cleaner. Don't stop looking, but I'll pm you if I find one.

Brian

Any two barrel 318 air cleaner will work. The TBI air cleaners won't work on the BBD air horn.

…unless the OP's car has air conditioning, in which case the air cleaner with the flat-front housing is needed, and that's a Slant-6-only item.

Good point. Ten again, hammers, snips, and welders are valuable tools. Alternatively, he can use the stock one barel air cleaner and just weld in the opening for the carb from the two barrel air cleaner. Or weld in the opening form a cheesy aftermarket two barel open element air cleaner.

Yeah, we have AC......

Hadn't thought about cutting out and reweld in on a new throat......would be a little more advanced than my welding skills have up til now addressed.....lol

That one on ebay isn't the right one I don't think plus it's cracked around the nipple....I guess I could weld that......

If the ebay one is incorrect, it might be better to do what the other suggest. Find one that you like and adapt it to fit, get yourself one of those repro stickers to top it off.

Do you have a picture of the one you are looking for?
I know the 318 has a similar air cleaner. However if you have A/C, then sometimes you have to hammer in a large dent in order to clear.

From what I can tell, its this one--

large round widening at the end of the intake snout, dent in the front side for A/C, and no lean burn holes
