Great 7 cars!

Not so great, points don't count.

Great, 3 new racers to a SSRN event!

Not so great, Seymour couldn't make the call for the final, electrical problems.

Great, Bill Kendall wins it. SDRA dragster.

Not so great, promoter tells me buy back stays because when she ran a points series it didn't really matter. I didn't remind her that the point series she had lasted 1 year and the race at Ark City, KS had 9 cars in 3 brackets!

Great, 3 cars that Stepp had owned were raced today!

Not so great, new racer understood how important the points were and didn't want to cause any problems, lied to my face and bought back. Sad and selfish of him.

Mark

Glad you had a decent turnout Mark. Shame about the points.

Hope Seymour can get Whitey patched up and get home.

Wow! That is pretty sad!

7 cars is pretty good for a first run! But if the track won't work with us on buy backs that may hurt counts going forward. Thanks for all your trying to do out there Mark!

Congrats in getting some new racers out to a new venue, Mark!

I wonder if there is a way to count at least some of the points? If you or someone else could post a ladder to read, and we know who bought back, there might be a way. Long shot, but we can consider.

Best,
Lou

You could count show up points and the first round. The buy back tainted everything after that.

I'm confused here.
There were 7 cars...
1st round - 4 races (1 of them a bye race)
2nd round - 2 races (no bye races)
3rd round - 1 race (the final)

Wouldn't the ladder prevent buy backs?
What am I missing?

Why does everyone get punished for the actions of a single racer?

Hmm.. dennis brings up an interesting point that i think is not defined in the current rules?

I know it says no buybacks... but how to interperet if track does allow but slant race coordinator says no..

Would the amount of points awarded effect the current championship standings?

What is the correct or fairest intereperation of the current rules?

Slant pundits chime in here or move this discussion to racing q&a

Sort of reminds me of the crosstalk issues of the past

Lou, the buyback put 5 cars in the 2nd round, adding another round. Plus, someone got a bye in the 2nd and 3rd rounds who should not have had one.

It's too bad Mark got screwed twice in this deal, once by the track and again by buyback guy.

Did the lack of points have any bearings on the points standing?

Tulsa first round
Seymour Pederson '62 Valiant vs. Howard Darnell '63 Valiant

Rusty Heisten '62 Lancer vs. Austin Goodman '64 Valiant

Bill Kendall SDRA dragster vs. buy back

Jeff Strahl '62 Lancer BYE

Second round
Seymour vs. Rusty

Jeff vs buy back

Bill BYE

Third round
Bill vs. Jeff

Seymour BYE

Final round
Bill wins

No buy back means no buy back. It is my fault I did not tell the promoter a year ago about the no buy back. Seymour is the big loser with in the points deal and his Performance Index.

Bill gets to the track first and tries to enter the slant 6 bracket and the promoter says his car is to light and has to run sportsman. I go with Bill to the promoter to get him in the slant bracket and she charged him $20 on top of his $40 in get back in the slant class. It cost him $60 to run the slant bracket only, which I still don't understand.

I did make it home okay this afternoon. No smoke after I disconnected the MSD and switched to the old orange box. The weather and the turnout were good and the Tulsa track is a good one, too bad about the buyback deal. Thanks to Mark for putting this together and providing some of the purse. Next year 60 cars for sure.

Glad you made it home and thanks for making the trip.

Sure is getting old Seymour taking all that prize money home with him. The idea was that we were suppose to win so we wouldn't have to pay out any money.

Happy to see Bill and Seymour in the finals, they earned it.

Mark

Everyone should still at least get the 5 attendance points.

I would argue that the first round should count too, but I'm just a scribe.

The added attendance points won't change the overall standings considerably, but if the 1st round counts it would give Jeff Strahl Rookie of the Year over James Soard...

I'll wait for the final consensus from Seymour and Lou before I finalize the points.

I assume "Buy Back" shall remain nameless, but I'll add everyone else to the roster.

Thanks for recruiting more folks into the Slanted Family Mark!

7 cars for an inaugural event is a great start. I'm sure you'll get things ironed out for next year.

If I'm stationed close enough by then I'll make it a point to come.

I was actually at Fort Sill, OK last week. It was just a quick overnight to see my son before he left there for Fort Sam Houston, TX in San Antonio.

Thanks, all. I see no reason why the 1st round winners should not get their points for that round win. After that, I think it doesn't work.

Best,

Lou
