I have a '67 dart power steering pump. I've upgraded to a Borgeson box, and the fitting is 16 mm x 1.5 pitch into the box, but the flare fitting is 5 -AN it as 1/2" - 20 threads. My pressure line has what looks like a 1/4" flare fitting.

Anyone do this conversion and know what fitting (or hose) to get? Borgeson site says they sell 6 AN flare fitting with 16mm x 1.5 thread pitch, but the one that came with my box looks like a 5 -AN to me. Regardless it doesn't fit my pressure line.

thanks all,

Brian

I either need a 16 mm x 1.5 male to 1/4 SAE flare fitting or I need a hose that has 3/8" inverted flare on the pump side and a 5 -AN female on the box side.

i suppose there are other ways to crack that nut but either of those would work

OK, so I measured the flare angle and it looks like 45 degrees...so, the adapter for the box is 16 mm x 1.5 pitch on the side that screws into the box and 5/16 SAE male flare on the other side.

Is there a power steering line that has 3/8" inverted flare male on the pump side and 5/16" SAE female flare on the other end?

turns out they make an reducer from 5/16" flare to 1/4" flare...a couple bucks and I can just use my existing hose.

If you look at my posts, there are a number of them where I answer my own questions...sometimes I just like to work through things on paper, so to speak. But, there are many more where I got great advice and tips from the board, great resource this board.

I made my own line using teflon tubing with SS braid cover and the appropriate 6 -AN fittings. That teflon tubing with SS braids will withstand 2500 psi. I think a power steering pump puts out on the order of 1200 psi.

Here is the line, took me literally 10 minutes to make (I had extra line already from my tranny line job, I just needed the fittings).

Here is the install: http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... 6.jpg.html

I used a 90 degree banjo fitting at the box: http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... h.jpg.html

Here is the pump side: http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... w.jpg.html

The fittings were $32 total, the SS line I already had (but let's say a few dollars worth). The Borgeson line kit is $72 and only fits the Saginaw pumps.

If you are using SS braided teflon line, here is a useful tip. Cut the line with a cutoff wheel. The heat fuses the braided cover together and so it doesn't expand and fray out of control. Put your compression fitting collars onto the line while it's compressed like this. THEN fray the braided part, install your ferrel and finish the fitting assembly. If you do this, you won't need one of these (expensive!) tools: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/kts-681/overview/

Though, if you are using rubber-lined SS braided hose, the Koul Tools thingy is invaluable. I would use teflon from herein, way better, easier to use, indestructable, no fancy tool needed.
