Does anyone know the best stock cam for low end torqueand fuel economy. I have found the engines i have had the hydraulic cam ones tended to be best but it may have been due to ither variables like wear and things. Or if anyone knows where i can find specs in the few diferent stock cams. Thanks

Most of the factory SL6 cams were pretty mild...
Do you plan to stay with the hydraulic lifters or change over to a solid lifter set-up?

I have a few vehicles with the slant six and just noticed the hydraulic seemed to have the best low rpm torque. I am planning on putting a low miles 1968 225 into a nother truck of mine and while its out wondering which cam.will.give the best low rpm torque so likely the smallest one but im not sure i will replace valve seals and check it over before i put it in anyway. The truck will be just a daily use truck foe driving to and from work has 3.55 gears and np 435 trans is a 4x4 1979

If you are just swapping parts for a better combination, pull the 1968 camshaft from your swapper engine, and steal one from a 1972-1980 225 slant six... it is very slightly better... while doing this you will be money ahead anyway to install a new timing set and degree the cam while regasketting the engine...

Ok thanks i actualy have many new old stock cams from a dealer that moved and noticed that the cams were different. Would you also advance cam or install at factory spec. The truck will likely never rev over 2500 rpm ever.

I would set it at 4 degrees advanced since it's a truck that should give you a little more low end torque and not limit the rpm too badly (it's still going to run out about 4000 rpm anyway...).

If I was going to pull the cam anyway, I would certainly upgrade it a bit. The Slant 6 is so down on power to start with especially with a heavier truck. Oregon cams is your friend.  Just one mans opinion.
