Power brakes?

The reason I'm asking is because the vacuum for the brake booster is on the #6 runner.

A vacuum leak with the power brake system would give you a lean mixture on #6 and would be a likely cause for detonation.

...or weed as its called, is legal here in California now...but be warned. As a chemist, I can tell you that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the stuff in MJ that makes you high) stays in your system for weeks - it has a long half-life. So, if you are gainfully employed, even though it is now legal under CA state law to partake of weed, if your employer has a random drug test policy, then you can lose your job if you test positive, even if you smoked weeks earlier. The gist is, if you have a job in CA, even though Mary Jane is legal...it's not a good idea to partake if you value your job.

NOTE: The key is that current testing methods only detect the presence of THC, not the bioavailable level of THC that would indicate whether or not you are in fact high as a kite. They are working on more sophisticated test methods that will distinguish between someone who is high at work on Monday, and someone who smoked a joint on Friday and is totally lucid at the office. But, it will be a while before that technology hits the market.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Although I am a lawyer, I am neither providing legal advice, nor am I to be considered your lawyer. The statements above should not be considered anything other than social and/or scientific commentary.

Ed,

That's interesting. I had a lean condition but my power brake booster gets it's vacuum centrally, at the center of the intake, rather than #6 runner.

I was always interested in why vacuum boost was taken from one runner over centrally to in order to evenly distribute the pull on the intake volume.

You can see in this pic, I run my power booster from a port centrally located, between two carbs on my intake. I figured it can't be good to suck volume from a single runner and make it different from the other 5.

...I realize the stock manifold has a port on #6 runner, but why didn't they engineer a centralized vacuum port for that very reason of a lean condition on one runner?

I like that Dan, totally get "arm strong" and "leg strong" - i.e. no power anything on this one....

Sure, just for those reading for whom it might apply...some see legalization as a free pass to go for it, but there are things they might want to watch out for.

I've started using some medium emory cloth to put a shine and clean on the head. Using a straight edge - (aluminum square) - the deck looks straight and I see nothing that looks like it has any gaps of any sort.
It all actually looks pretty good to me?
I put water in the #5 cylinder top and it held water forever too...
Will eventually check all of them to make sure...

It looks like I should be able to clean stuff and just re-gasket it and put it back together. Hopefully without getting any crap down in the block and pistons while cleaning the deck and piston tops off.

Anyway, still haven't figured out who I gave my sisters shipping address to!
LOL - Coulda sworn they said they were gonna ship a set of gaskets my way!

LOL - I wish my memory would stop leaving so quickly all the time!

Not the best straight edge but it will do... put it across the affected area and break out the feeler gauges (supposed to use machinists tape for this), if you can slide .001-.006 under it the deck is fairly flat and will work with the felpro gasket... anything over that the deck may not seal correctly... do the same with the head.

I haven't tried it with a feeler gauge yet - just had a light behind it looking for sunlight under the straight edge...

Didn't have it completely clean when I tried it, but I had a really hard time even seeing daylight shining through under the edge at that point...

Will know a little more later this morning if I can get the old body going...

It's damp and cooler and raining here in my area of southern ca right now~

Harder to get moving when you feel like molasses...

LOL
