This is the original pan with only 4 quarts of oil in it. I was surprised how high up in the pan it was.

With 5 quarts of oil it was up over the rear oil seal cover. Having seen that I am surpised there are not more leaks there.

The rear shelf is completely covered with oil, and the front has none on it

Here is the completed pan with 5 quarts of oil in it. It is not even out of the sump yet.

This is with 7 quarts. It is still well down from what the original pan was and just has a little on the rear shelf. I think this is the level I will run in it. It gives me 2 extra quarts and keeps it further from the crank. I also will have Robbie weld in a 3" baffle off the rear shelf and a 2" one off the front shelf to keep oil in the sump on acceleration and deceleration

Rember there will be 1-2 quarts in the filter and top of the engine espically if you run standoffs in the return galleys.

That looks great. How did you come up with the template?
FYI, the drag racing value of a deeper pan is to keep the oil level as far below the crank as possible. Personally, I wouldn't run any more than 6 quarts. I plan to make a deeper sump as well but I will keep the oil at 5 quarts. Besides, one less quart will be about 2 lbs less weight on the front.

Just looked at what I had, and the room I had with the F Body pan. Gave the measurements I wanted the sump to be to Robbie and showed him how how far away from the centerlink I wanted to stay and he did the rest.

Pan is done except for the clear coat, and I dropped off the K Frame for the final welding. Once the pan is installed and the K Frame is done, I will be ready to start the swap.

My Dad's oil didn't have suds in it...
He always used "Non Detergent" oil in his cars. :wink:

He used to let me push the spout into those cool cardboard type oil cans.

He worked at an airport and would mix Regular gas with a splash or two of aviation fuel. :twisted:

Back on track: Awesome looking oil pan! Thanks for showing the comparison of capacities. That really helps folks understand what's in their oil pans.

Interesting dialogue about how much oil people have run in their cars in different situations.

I'm surprised we don't see more people posting about accu-sump pressurized systems...

Seymours / Ryans race car has one in it.

For simplicity and costs I always just install a Low Oil pressure cut off switch. Loose pressure and you loose ignition. This little switch has already saved me one engine. It is cheap insurance.

Every real racing pan needs a sticker. I told Robbie to get me one of his and I'd put it on for some free advertising! :lol: But until he gets me one of his I had this one.

I started the evening with this:

And ended with this shiny K frame and center link. I also got a new idler arm to install while this is going in.

The list of things I need to have ready before I start the switch is getting shorter. I may pull the motor and transmission on Saturday if everything goes well. I have decided to install the spare racing transmission that Ryan has. So I shouldn't have to worry about the transmission for a while.

I got my new Stage 8 pan bolts with locking tabs and my new Moog strut arm bushing that I will replace while the K frame is out.

I mounted the windage tray and the crank scraper last night,(hopefully for the last time) and I installed the oil pan side gaskets and left them set up so I don't have to worry about them moving when I drop the pan on Monday evening. Once the pan is on the fun starts. :lol: :lol:

I probably would have had the car completely dismantled and ready to go back together, except for one small problem. My garage was so full of stuff, that all the bad stuff was hiding all the good stuff and I couldn't find the stuff I needed to put the other stuff on my engine!

So I spent all Thursday & friday evening and most of the day Saturday cleaning up about 1/3 of my garage! At least now I have a clean and orderly place to work. As soon as my engine swap is done, I am moving on to side 2 of the garage. I can't continue to work like this. I need to get organized and keep it that way! A tall task I know.

What brought this to a head was the 32 new intake/exhaust manifold studs that are in a small bag somewhere in the garage and I can't find them! I figure I might as well go ahead and order 2 more sets if I want to find my lost ones!! :lol: :lol:
