It been a while since I've posted here which means the slant 6 hasn't been giving me any problems!

I've got the improvement bug again though so now I am attempting to add a dual master cylinder and booster to my '62 Town Wagon using this method http://uglytruckling.com/booster_brackets.html.

The only problem I can foresee is that the MC will come too close to the large Super Six air cleaner I have on there. What are my options here? Is the standard 318 air cleaner any smaller or will I have to look for an after market replacement?

You could do away with the carb mounted air cleaner, get a carb hat, a remote mounted air cleaner and ducting to comment the two, you could even work in an outside/cold air intake.

This is my recommendation. Chrysler and other automakers did make offset air cleaners, but finding one these days that will fit a BBD will be difficult. Going with a carb hat and remote mount air filter is a better solution.

Spectre sells a reasonable and pretty carb hood if you're running a Holley. Not sure fitment on other carbs.

Wherever you can fit ducting and/or a ram air and conical air filter is up to you!

Thanks for the ideas, this has definitely got me thinking.

I would like to keep it fairly original looking if possible. Now that I think about it I have a lot of room under there so could possibly solve my issue by simply raising the filter up 6" or so if I could find some sort of adapter. Does that sort of thing exist?

PVC pipe? The factory solution to your problem would be to find (fat chance) an ultra-rare Dodge/Plymouth B series van Super Six air filter housing. In my 20+ years of slant six enthusiasm I have only ever seen two of them in person, and saw pictures of a third online. A carb hat from a fuel injected vehicle would look somewhat stock.

Check out underwater snorkles for Jeeps. Jeeps used the same Carter BBD carb that the slant six did, so the waterproofing snorkel kits used for Jeeps could be adapted to make a remote mount air filter for your truck.

Thanks Reed. I see even the non-power brake version of the CJ air cleaner is offset slightly... I'll have to do some measurement and see if it's enough to solve my problem. The power brake version is completely offset/remote so I could see that being an option too.
