If ignition and timing have checked out I would check for a vacuum leak. They can play havoc on an engine! What type of intake gasket did you use? I had the heavy green gasket get hung up on the factory lugs on the block and caused an awful leak. My engine would not even start! I thought my cam was in wrong too. Hang in there you will find it!

It runs. I'll let Chuck tell you the story. It was/is ignition.

...not my idea, but here's the one I use. Made it with a hole saw in about 3 seconds.

You can see where I nicked some of the towers pulling away from the cut (didn't have the patience to use my drill press).

I did mine (for mopar 360) so that I opened a square hole in to the side of the cap. The cap was still in operating condition. With ignition light I "stopped" the rotor to the position where it is during the spark occurs (including centrifugal and vacuum advance). With the slant six the the distributor is not so easy to look during operation but probable with mirror...

Okay, Charlie, Ben, Frank, and me figured it out, although it was mostly Charlie. He came over again with a bunch of known working parts and we isolated the issues one by one. Turns out it was was two bad parts: the ignition module and a faulty ignition switch. Once we got that sorted, it seemed to behave itself just fine.

You can see some video of it running over here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFb6Hrkvhyg

There's a lot of valve rattle because we had the valves all set at .020", but we adjusted them back down to .015" it was warm. The car now runs successfully under its own parts after replacing the starter relay, which died during the cam break in.

I'm truly grateful to Charlie for swinging by and working his magic on this thing. I was afraid we'd never get it running. The Erson cam sounds fantastic, and I'll record a video of it revving soon, but here's some of what it sounds like at idle. Having never heard one with the Erson 280/270 cam, I was afraid it would be too lopey, but it sounds like it'll do just fine on the street while giving a little rumble.

Also, it turns out the distributor was wired backwards, but the car was running so bad from the faulty ignition switch and module that we couldn't diagnose that.

If it's not one thing, it's two more... ;)
