I see some Aussie Valiants with what looks like a fuel splash guard on their fuel fillers. They appear to be chrome, and kind of have a tongue that hangs down, and away from the body. Seemingly to direct the inevitable splash back that will come. Is that something that could be retrofitted to a North American Valiant? Was it functional, or just a dress up item? If it could be added does anyone have one, or know where I could get one.

Aftermarket accessory. Unavailable for years—you have to do the usual go-fish hunting trip. Here's a completed auction for a VE-VF-VG (like US '67-'70) item. The guard for the '60-'66 cars would fit Australian R, S, AP5, AP6, and VC Valiants.

PS: Nifty to look at, but they don't keep the splashed gasoline off your quarter panel. It still runs down.

That item on Ebay will fit the early Valiants - you need to make a minor modification to the fuel guard screw slots.

I have fitted one to my 61 Valiant and they are easy to find in Australia.
