That's a beauty! I always liked Mopar dark green colors.

You betcha, Dan! As soon as I can get my feet back on solid ground! Should be early next week. Thanks, Reed.

In the meantime......research, research, research.

I'm looking at the conversion kits for drum-to-disc brake swap outs for the car. Seems to be a very large price variance...

Parts availability is such that you should be able to put together a good disc brake system from off-the-shelf parts (and a few good used parts) rather than paying the big bucks for a conversion kit. We'll be able to help.

Once we know what we're starting with (fender tag) then shopping lists get easier to write :-)

Thanks, Tim. My 80 year-old neighbour is the original owner, he purchased it out of the showroom in 1973. I've been sniffing around this car for 2 years and he finally gave me the nod. It's been licensed as a 'Vintage Auto' here for the past 7 years, but needs some TLC. There are some mechanical/electrical issues, but I don't think there are any real major problems. The engine currently in it, is a 'spare' Slant Six that was put in after the old fellow pulled the original out for 'making a knocking noise'. The original is under a tarp in his barn, waiting for me to move it out. With the help of your guys here, I'm still figuring out what to do with that particular build. (Dan, I haven't forgotten that tag info). It's going to the mechanic's shop next weekend, so that he can pass a critical eye over it, and suggest a repair priority list. My wife and I have been saving for a car project for a while now and we're hoping that this great little car is it! I have to say, you guys here on this site have been a wealth of information and advice.

Cheers,
Shawn

Well. Got ashore and had a chance to look for the fender tag. Found it, but wondered why there was red paint on it (when the car is dark green). The old guy who sold it to me 'suddenly remembered' that he had replaced the fender with one from a parts car early in the '80s. So...no valid fender tag, unfortunately. Car is off to the mechanics for evaluation. I'll keep you posted. Grrrr......

Well, OK, that's unfortunate but not a giant setback. We can still figure out what you need to know. From the underhood shot, I see a drum brake master cylinder, so the car has either 4-wheel 10" or (more likely) 4-wheel 9" drum brakes.

3-speed wipers.

US Federal emissions.

No heavy-duty cooling or trailer-tow package.

No A/C.

No power brakes; tough to see from this angle but looks like no power steering.

Probably no heavy-duty suspension.

It does have a remote driver's side view mirror and a vinyl roof. :-)

Hi Dan:

I think your list is pretty spot-on. The only caveat I can add, is that the car does indeed have power steering. In the 'spare parts' box I acquired with the sale, there is a spare alternator, wiper blade linkage assembly, gas cap with 2 keys, grille, ballast resistor and other odds and ends. Interestingly, there is also a spare sideview mirror that the old owner was going to mount on the passenger side for safety's sake, but I'm not sure that's necessary and I may skip that.

More to follow once the mechanical overview is complete. Thanks again.

Shawn
