Yes, it is a slant six, (Is there any other motor?). I picked it up cheeeep. It has Clifford Hedders on it, (bad). It also has a Clifford 6/8 intake on it with what looks like a Holley 500/2 barrel carb and throttle linkage. The engine has a 69 and later valve cover. In addition it has a complete 3 speed manual transmission bolted up to it. The engine was out of a mid 60s A 100, the alternator is,on the left side of the motor and the throttle linkage is mechanical. The engine was out of a running van and the guy I got it from said it had a Clifford cam in it though I have no idea how to confirm that without tearing the motor down.
What I am trying to figure out is the year of the motor. It has 5 freeze plugs on the left side and these numbers on the left side of the block.
2806830-4
AAWJ 00831 BH
On the right side of the engine on the lip by the head are these numbers,
J225R 1 18
Can anyone tell me what year this engine is? Thanks,
Chas.

According to THE MATRIX, you have a 68-75 225 block. Beyond that you will need someone to decode the numbers on the pad on the passenger side of the block.

This morning I pulled the trans off the bellhousing, the hedders and intake, and a bunch of bolt on parts. Getting ready to borrow a cherry picker and get it out of my truck and into the garage. The last thing I did was pop off the distributor cap and plug wires. I had to do a double take. I pulled off the rotor and saw that the distributor is a dual point distributor. Now more than ever I want to pull this engine apart and see what other surprises await me. When that time comes the questions will too. Going to look long and hard at the head and valves as well as the block. This just might be fun. Have to figure out what type of Holley 2 barrel this carb Is? It looks like the 500 i had on one of my Mustangs back in the day. Going to look for numbers and figure it out.

That dual point distributor is an interesting conversation piece or garage art, but an electronic ignition distributor and an electronic ignition distributor will give you better performance and economy.

There should be a number stamped on the choke horn that you can use to find out what it is. :D

I agree Reed. Its just crazy that this engine had a dual point. Going to have to post some pictures. What I did figure out is this engine was sitting for a LONG time so this dual point thing might have been the thing then. In the 70s my 66 Nova SS had a Mallory Dual Point Dizzy. I'm just going to have to get this motor broken down and see what was done? If it was done long ago there may be some strange stuff going on in that engine, OR NOT???? Like I said, its going to be interesting!

Thanks Dennis, did see a 4 digit number on the carb. Did not write it down but I will get to it soon. Gotta get a cherry picker to get this into the garage and out of my truck first LOL.

When you get around to pulling that dude out of there... look for the part number stamped directly into the body of the distributor... that will help pin down what it is...

I'm tempted to say that looks like a Mallory dual-point distributor, but while some details do look Mallory-like, others don't. I'm not aware of a version of their dual-point distributor with vacuum advance, but maybe there was one. Then there were the Dyna-Flyte centre-pivot dual-point conversions (they made one for the \6) but those used the standard Chrysler vacuum advance, and this what's in the photo isn't one of those. So yeah, I'm curious to see/learn more!

The picture of showing the distributor cap has me thinking Mallory and they did catalog a vacuum advance dual-point distributor for the slant.
