Ooh! Nasty! Better use Save As when making the CSV (and have a backup!).

I had done Save As and I have several backups in different places, but I had done a lot of changes. I would have had to go back and re-do a bunch of stuff. Kinda like we’re doing now.

Which CSV file option should I use? There are 3-4 options...

What is "Over 5"?

Racers can only count win points for their top five races. Any wins above that are forfeited to the “Over 5” rule. It helps even the playing field between people that can and can’t attend a lot of races.

Here is a transcript of the Season recap that Rob wrote for the banquet presentation after the board crash in Nov 2017.




The 2017 racing season ended with Ron Hamby earning his 7th National Championship! Ron had won in 2013, 2014 and 2015, which prompted someone (who shall remain nameless  ) to place a Bounty on his head for 2016. We’re not sure if that’s what made the difference or not, but in 2016 Mr. Hamby was chased hard by both Rodney Hargis and Ryan Covalt, with Rodney just edging out Ron at the very end of the year to earn his 3rd National Championship.

Mr. Hamby was not going to let that happen again! He was literally UNSTOPPABLE the first half of the year, winning every single race for the first 6 events and maintaining a perfect 1.0000 Performance Index with 22 straight wins! It wasn’t until the Knoxville race in August when Team Green driver and eventual 2017 Runner-Up Rusty Heisten was able to beat Ron and end his amazing winning streak. Of course, Ron came right back at Clay City and beat all comers both days of that race as well. There really was no catching Ron in 2017. He even sat out the last big race of the season at Mason-Dixon and still won the season by a landslide and with an impressive 0.8158 Performance Index. He gave up more points to the Over 5 rule than most other people earned the entire season. Congratulations on an absolutely stunning victory in 2017 Mr. Hamby!


Rusty “Record Setter” Heisten was Runner-Up for 2017, just barely edging out Greg Ondayko for the #2 spot. Rusty and Team Green Head Honcho Mark Goodman made a plan for the 2017 season and saw that plan through with amazing precision. They easily took both of the season opener wins at their home track in MoKan, but they really implemented their plan for Slant 6 Domination when they towed out to Knoxville for that fateful win over Ron Hamby. Their plan for Knoxville was to set a couple records and “Beat Hamby!” Check and check! Then in September they towed out to Clay City with the goal of setting more records and “Be Nice to Rob Simmons.” Check and Double Check again! The being nice thing must have come from Mark Goodman who felt bad for running off Rob and his son Chase when they stopped by his Route 66 Drive In theater for a visit in August. He thought them two suspicious fellers with out of state plates pokin’ around his property were up to no good and either stealin’ stuff or peein’ on his bushes. Once he figgered out who they were he put down his shotgun and invited ‘em in for a tour of the Team Green Skunkworks. Team Green set every record they aimed for in 2017 and now pretty much own B class… (the board crash lost all of the records – I’ve PM’d Ryan and Rusty for the list)

Coming in a very close 3rd was “Mr. Precision” Greg Ondayko just a mere 5 points behind Rusty. The Over 5 rule barely nipped Greg’s chances at that #2 spot. Rusty’s 20 points for setting a record gave him that slight edge. Greg is very focused at races, pouring over data and making sure everything with “Ruster” is just the way he wants it. It’s impressive to watch.
The Killer Bees West Coast Champion was no stranger to that top position. Andrew “Kidd” Howard once again lead that charge, earning his 4th Killer Bees top honors. Andrew almost unseated Ron Hamby for the National Championship in 2013 with Ron pulling out a last race of the season win to take the points lead. Andrew has been the Top Dog on the West Coast 4 of the last 5 years. The Killer Bees really struggled in 2017 with low car counts that caused 5 of their races to be cancelled. With all of the floods and fires on the West Coast this year, we all hope that 2018 will be a better year all around for the Killer Bees.

2017 had a total of 62 racers competing for round wins with 14 Rookie Racers making up almost 23% of the racers this year. Great job recruiting new faces everyone! The two top Rookies for 2017 just happened to be the sons of the two top East and West Coast racers. Dale Hamby and Andrew Howard Jr. tied for Rookie of the Year honors. There were several “Next Generation” racers filling out the ranks in 2017. It’s great to see many of our veteran racers passing the torch or teaching their kids and even grandkids to enjoy Slant 6 racing!

It was another good year for us and shows that this crazy thing we all enjoy so much should be here to stay for quite a while. 2018 is the 20th anniversary of the Slant 6 Racing Series and will hopefully be a record setting year. There is a big push to make Clay City a huge event with the biggest car count and largest purse in Slant 6 racing history. Mark your calendars for 7-9 September 2018 to “come out and run with the Slants!”
