I finally got around to replacing the last piece of yellowed lexan on the Duster. Now I'll be able to see out the back finally.

I was hoping to fiddle with the Duster a little bit before the Motormile race this weekend.... Not sure that's gonna happen though... I will likely do my typical "Show up with a non-running car and beg for help" thing I've been teased about over the years (for good reason).

It runs okay and I've even changed the oil, flushed the cooling system, bled the brakes, replaced the rear windshield and sprayed a little paint on a couple spots.

I guess we'll see y'all Friday (hopefully, if I finish something at work by Thursday).

The Duster is running nice and consistent again. 9.00-9.10 pass after pass. The driver can’t cut a light yet, but he’ll keep looking for the tree. Too cautious not to redlight.
Another day of racing today. :D

Another very successful race weekend for the Duster. It made 13 passes over the three days of racing with every pass between 9.00 and 9.18. I adjusted the dial based on the weather and it ran pretty much what I expected every time. The heat played the biggest factor in the car being off the dial. The most it was off was the final race against Rick Covalt in the semis when we both slowed down. It was only off by .0624.

I need more seat time to be able to figure out my starts and cut better lights, but I won the race Saturday and was third on Sunday.

Rick Covalt beat me Sunday in a really great race. He dialed 9.01 and I dialed 9.10. We cut identical lights. We were both off the number due to the heat, but he was closer to his dial by .0047! If ya gotta lose, that's the way to go down swingin'! :D

Looking forward to Wilkesboro next month!

Here is a link to the semi final round between me and Rick. We had identical reaction times and he beat me by .0047! Closest race of the weekend. Thanks for posting this, Ryan!

I've fiddled with the Duster a little this week. I replaced the fuel cell and cleaned up the passenger door and started to re-mount the window. The fuel cell replacement was good for about 12 lbs of weight savings and I was able to cut and scrape about 5-6 lbs out of the door.

80lbs from just the one door? That is a really interesting door latch pull. I had never considered something like that, but I don't think you could get any lighter than that. Do the doors feel stiff enough with the inner skin removed.

Must be both doors, or some other stuff too. Doors will be flexible, but still useable with all that gone. My Project V is about like that, with a bit more meat left.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is now 80 lbs lighter than when it left the factory.
(The scale was set for ounces. )

I did go too close to the edge when I cut out that last bit of metal though. I should have left a little more of a lip. The door now flexes a little more than I would like. I may try to put some cross wires in it to see if that gets it back to being more rigid. It is useable as it is. It just flexes some.

I got the wire door pull idea from Seymour. Not nearly as well executed, but that’s how us Posers roll.

My junk always liked 3.91's, especially with the hose on. The '68 has 4.10's in it. I doubt I will ever change them unless they break. :D
