Hello sages is it a common occurrence for the mecanical points type regulator to output lots of voltage charge if it(the regulator) is hot or driven in 90* or more weather? (meaning on an old chrysler D/C amp meter its going toward the C side more than usual with Just engine and ignition load , no lights, radio , ac, etc?

That's odd. Good mechanical regulators are temperature compensated to reduce voltage output at higher temperatures. Do you have a volt meter you can connect and observe while driving? Also, any load at the battery terminals will move the ammeter to the Charge side. I noticed this when I connected the power input for an MSD box directly to the battery.

No I have no way of knowing - as I was driving home yesterday - VA to to PA the Amp gauge started to steadily climb toward the C as I was cruising between 2600-3200 RPM.. It was just charging more and more for no reason - I didnt want it to cook the battery so I did a roadside swap to the electronbic one that I had in the glovebox...... That helped for the last 2 hours of the trip.



It went from no load halfway between "0" center and "C"(with the crazy mech. regulator) to just a skosh "to the right" above No load with the spare regulator from glove box.


Probably a failing unit and needs replacing.

No I never had a ballast resistor problem - ever - And this car is a pertronix conversion anyway so it's jumpered out.
