Norm I do most of mine myself with the car setting on the floor. I leave the transmission in the proper place. I put a jack under the transmission pan with a block of wood on it. I jack it up till it is against or almost against the tunnel. Then I drop the engine into place. I have a fixed crane, mounted in the floor so I keep the car close enough to the crane so that when the engine hangs it tries to push back towards the car on its own. Then I begin the wiggle and jiggle to work it into place. Some extra long bolts to help pull it into place are a good idea to. If you are using a cherry picker it would obviously be good to have someone help push it towards the car while you wiggle it into place. Hope that makes sense.

No Norm, If I am having trouble getting it together I may leave the motor mounts off altogether. Then get the engine and transmission pulled together, then add the motor mounts. That gives you more room to move the engine around in the engine bay.

Norm I think you are on the right track. With the trans in the car and supported by the rear crossmember and a jack under the front the tranny the engine will drop in ok.

Well I am happy to say the motor is back in the car. Now I have to start installing everything back to it and keep my fingers crossed that it will fire up and not put water in the oil.

Rob the best I could tell was the head gasket but it really did not look blown. The guys at Dover cylinder head checked the head and it was good. I could not find any cracks in the top of block or in any cylinder walls. I pulled the main and rod bearings and they all looked good. So who knows it may still leak when i get it back together. If so I will keep racing it and change the oil after each race until racing season is over. Then I will step back and decide what my options are.

Well the possum motor is alive again. Started it up today after a long day of tinkering. I put some block sealer in and run the motor for about ten minutes. Did not find any visible leaks of oil or water so hope everything is ok. Will try to take it to the track this weekend for a shakedown before the Wilkesboro race. I don’t think I did a real good job on the valve lash so will try to reset at track. Just keeping fingers crossed and hoping the head gasket fixed the problem. Norm
