This what's pictured is the 2bbl unit. The 1bbl unit looks different; it's got the correct orientation and pushrod to attach directly to the 1bbl carb's choke lever. Full fitment instructions are included with the kit.

hey all
i have a 77 d100 slant 6 and just broke off the 1 bolt head for the replacement stock choke. someone told me about the newer electric chokes that he said mount on the carb to avoid bothering trying to get the stuck threads out. the images in the first post above are no longer displaying does anyone have an image link or a pic of one of these electric aftermarket chokes?. Ive seen some online that look like a ufo shape but want to make sure i get the right kind that do not have to mount on the manifold....thanks so much!

The CarbsOnly kit does mount via the one bolt in the exhaust manifold. Here are some pictures of a Carbsonly two barrel carb choke kit installed on my brother's 83 Dodge van:

You can clearly see in the first picture that the thermostatic unit bolts to the exhaust in the same place as the factory choke thermostat and uses the same bolt.

I am sure Dan can shed more light on this, and I may very well be wrong, but I am not aware of any aftermarket electric choke kits for one barrel slant carbs or Carter BBDs or Holley 2280 that mount on the carb. There were some one barrel carbs of other brand cars (Ford, GM) and Jeep BBDs that had an electric choke incorporated to the body of the carb, but I cant recall ever seeing one of those for the slant.

I just ordered the #1234 kit for my 1980 Holley 1945. So the choke pulloff stays intact? I guess I don't understand how the pulloff and choke interact. I do know the pulloff is vacuum driven and the stock choke is driven by heat. Anyone care to explain? thanks

The carbsonly piece just replaces the choke thermostat that the factory mounted in the exhaust manifold and that had the rod going up to the choke linkage. It bolts to the top of the exhaust manifold and attaches to the carb just like the factory choke thermostat did. There is an eyelet on the chokelinkage and the little clip holds the rod tothe choke linkage.

I resurrected this thread to ask for help.

Does anyone have an instruction set for the 1232 electric choke for a BBD?

I'm finishing up a Super Six swap, and it's choke time. Naturally, I've lost the instructions for the new choke. From photos and other descriptions, I've got the choke mounted, but I wanted to double check the wiring and adjustment.

The BBD carburetor, manifold, brackets, throttle pedal, kickdown, and assorted hardware from a '79 Volare are going onto a stock-ish '64 225 with four-pin HEI and a Ford coil.

Where does a fella get one of the 1234 electric choke kits nowadays?

The Carbsonly folks don't list it anymore.
They have not returned my inquiry for same either.
They list Super Choke No. 1231 and No. 1232 for 1 barrel carbs.

Are we pretty sure the 1234 will fit my 1984 D150 with a currently chokeless Holley 1945?

The round black housing contains the thermostatic spring, and you can see it has two electrical terminals on it. The spring and housing are attached to the mounting bracket by a retainer ring and screw. By loosening this screw, the housing can be rotated relative to the bracket through several whole revolutions, giving essentially infinite control over the initial spring/rod tension. The housing has a notch on it and the bracket has calibrated lines to help you keep track of your adjustment. As shipped, the unit was NOT adjusted (no rod tension); I had to loosen the clampscrew and rotate the housing until tension developed in the pushrod. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind.

You can see how the bracket attaches to the exhaust manifold in the same manner as the original choke. Other variants of the slant-6 choke kits have slightly different bracket fixing (2 holes instead of a bolt hole and a tab). This 2bbl kit has the pushrod with correct length and bends to connect to the factory type 2bbl installation.

The black-and-copper device on the left side of the photos, in the middle of the bundle of wires, is the heat sensor. You mount this in a location that "sees" engine heat and provides a good ground via the copper mounting strap. This device senses engine heat and regulates power to the heating element inside the round black spring housing. The wires provided are nice and long, so you can experiment with different locations in the engine bay to find the one that gives you the right choke come-off rate. A good starting point is one of the threaded bolt holes in the top surface of the head. If the choke comes off too quickly in that location, you can move it elsewhere.
The 1945 carb was introduced in the 1973 model year, so the 1234 kit will work on your truck using a 1945 carb.
