Been searching for Walker p/n 44958 which is OEM front pipe (downpipe) for \6 without a cat (meow, as SS Dan used to write).

Rare as hen's teeth, apparently.

Found one in stock up in Canada but when I emailed them, I was told it was an error, not available to buy or to backorder.
All I want to do is bolt onto the exhaust manifold and get pipe down under the truck, so I can bolt on the rest of the system along with the Slant Forum recommended Walker muffler #50051.

I enjoy the challenge of putting exhaust together myself but for the life of me, cannot find the first piece to get me started.
The vehicle is smog exempt but still has an old cat (meow) on it and I figure a muffler shop will try to tell me I have to install a new one, which I am loathe to do.
Maybe I'm wrong to fear this as the exemption is for anything earlier than 1995 in my state.
I suppose a phone call to a local shop is in order...

Any ideas for an easy substitute or another part number from another vehicle that will work.
There have to be other pipes out there with very similar angles and flange.

I've also made exhaustive searchs for the Walker 44958 headpipe since Aug. 2017. There just aren't any. I had emailed Walker's techline last year. I got a reply at that time from Tenneco, that it's out of production for good and nothing they make can be substituted. Also have searched US & Canada ebay and looked around on the Mexican market. The application was for 1981 through 1983 D150's with a slant and the air tube port. You can still get the Walker model for 1984, up slant trucks, but that has a "mini ox" precat in it, just a short piece of headpipe.

My '82 still has a seviceable headpipe for now, but it's pretty rusty and won't go a lot longer. It looks to have been a Walker aftermarket that may not be the oem 2.25 inch for the 2bbl. In Pa. they hit you for emissions inspection all the way back to '75 models. Pre-'96 ( OBDII) gets a visual inspection, but you got to have air pump, cat, vapor recovery, egr, etc., etc. I just emailed a proposal to my state rep and state senator begging relief from emissions for pre '96, or at least 25 yr. old. I listed examples of many states that have emissions inspection, but exempt these vehicles. I'm not holding my breath.

Accurate exhaust makes a two piece head pipe with a connector section for the '67 to '73 slant A body only. You can order it in 2.25 inch at extra cost. I don't know if the front part would be usuable on a truck. The back section would be money wasted unless someone could make some bends for you.

Why not just have an exhaust shop bend up a pipe? If they are concerned (legal reasons) about not doing the cat, just have them make the pipe, as a "cash and carry", you do the install at home.

Been so long since I hired any exhaust work done (20 years), I don't know a good small town shop anywhere near me, but there has to be one somewhere!

I'll ask around.

I have other *slanted* priorities right now too, but I'm thinking ahead to exhaust, before the snow flies, here in WI.

That's what I did, the local shop that specializes in Citroens, of all things, was able to make one from scrap for about $20. Just call around, I'm sire somebody can whittle one together.
