Great weekend of racing (both drag and bench  )

Note to everyone: The weather forecast for Saturday was pretty scary looking with up to 80% chance of ugly thunderstorms right up until Friday evening. Then the weather blew further South and we had nice weather and got in all the racing action. :D

Ryan Covalt was almost unbeatable this weekend and also reset his own records! Way to go Ryan!

Mark Goodman can finally rest easy... That Poser from Kentucky got whooped up on purdy good & ain't leadin' the points no more.

Here are the points for the weekend. I'll come back and add some more color commentary later.

Here's a letter and pictures from my friend Ellsworth. He really enjoyed meeting everyone. Now we just need to get him to buy a SlantSix car.

Thanks for posting the pictures and videos. It was cool to have Ellsworth taking pictures, he got a lot of neat shots. Hopefully we can get him in a slant 6 car in the future.

John it was a great time racing you in the finals 2 times. Always remember that you beat me in our first race at Clay City. I'm just glad I was able to make it down the track with you this time

I checked the time slips and I raced the car 13 times from 6:30 till 10:30 Friday night. I felt like we were running hot laps all night fighting to cool the car down and charge the battery between rounds enough to make the next one.

Rob, Thanks for posting the update/list. I never thought i'd find myself anywhere near the top of that list this year. i'm looking forward to the rest of the racing season!

That second race Friday was a bit harried I'd say. Norm had issues with his car as well. Still a great weekend of racing though.

I'm sure Seymour is doing a little happy dance knowing you are doing so well. :D

I'm looking forward to the next three races and devising a plan to give you some competition again. I even worked on the Challenger last night. Maybe we'll have another nail biter final at Mason-Dixon in October....

A few highlights from the weekend:

Ryan... enough said there! :D

13-15 cars. A record for this race!

Parker Hamby (Ron's grandson) added as a Rookie and is now the Rookie leader.
There were three generations of Hamby racing this weekend! Dale and Parker drove Ron's '66 high school Dart and the restored '61 Valiant 4 speed.

John Guthrie returned to Slant 6 racing. He raced with us a couple times in 2007-2008. He was racing his '72 Dart 4 door with a THREE ON THE TREE! :D

Mike Andreas brought out his beautiful '65 Valiant. It was great to have his friend Ellsworth taking photos and video all weekend! Mike's son Taylor was also there. Hopefully they will have the overheating issue worked out on his '65 Barracuda in time for him to feel comfortable enough to drive it to Clay City.

More of a lowlight... Jack Everhardt Jr. put an old school supercharger in his yellow Duster! Unfortunately, he grenaded the engine during time trials. :( So, he took the Duster home two hours to Elizabethton, TN and brought back a '74 (?) Dart 4 door that he and Jack III had put the old Duster engine into a few days earlier. Jack won two rounds Saturday with the untested car.

Ron Hamby racing the yellow Dart and winning at his home track Saturday.

My Crew Chief, Big Mike, came with me and had fun running some test & tune laps in my truck. It was his first time drag racing. He will be back.

Me getting passed by Ryan, so now the pressure is off and Mark Goodman can cheer up.

That is so cool!! :D :D Congrats Ron! That has to feel pretty good!! And great memories for everyone!

I had always asked my dad to race with us while he was living , but he never would. If I can make it another 4 or 5 years I will have a grandson who I am sure will like to go racing with Pap!!! :D

It would be cool if Parker won Rookie of the Year. Dale was RoY last year. He tied against Andrew Howard Jr.
