Installed 5 quarts of oil and it fired right up. That would have been great except for the 5 quarts that were already in   the pan made 10!!! I meant to drain it when I put it on the stand, and forgot. Oh well. Drained out 5 and ran it up to temperature and didn't see any leak. Want to change the plugs and adjust the timing a bit and we should be ready to roll! :D :D

Ran the car up to temperature 2 times. Installed a new old stock Distributor with the new limiting plate at 16 degrees. Initial sat to 12 and total of 28 if my math is correct! :D

I had a small leak at the 1/8 inch copper oil line fitting at the block. So I cut that off and put a new ferrule on the end and leak was gone. Headed to the garage now to go under the car and wire tie my convertor bolts. Then I don't have to worry about them till I'm ready to put the other motor back in.

Only other thing on the list is to put the hood back on and load up. :D :D

Clay City here we come!

Man! I need to update this thread.

But since I was the lucky winner at the Clay City race of 80% off of a torque convertor from Edge convertors; I thought I would let everyone know that I have a new one on the way. I talked to Andre and told him what I had in the car and what I wanted and it is on it's way from the West coast now. Pro Race convertor with all the goodies and 4000 stall speed. Thanks to Charlie for working this out and to Andre for doing it..

Speaking of Clay City, ( Just to update the thread), we had a nice trip out there with Ryan amd Whitney and our granddaughters. We were staying in a cottage about 2 miles from the track. Once we got the ladies settled on Friday evening we headed over to the track and unloaded the cars. Plenty of wet and soggy ground to be had, and more was on the way. The car ran down the track the first time and had a terrible miss and was all broke up for the 2nd half of the run. Came back into the pits and looked things over, wiggled some connections and went back out and it ran perfect the rest of the evening. Throwing out the 1st run, I then made 5 more runs, that were all nice .0xx lights. I figured I was ready and calm for the first round on Saturday and guess what I did?? Yep red light! Oh well, I guess I was more excited that I thought! Then, as you know after a couple of rounds the sky opened up and it was all over. Still a nice place and a nice time. I got to meet a lot of people that I had never met before. Spent some time with the family and went home with a great deal on a new torque convertor.

After I swapped the transmission out in my truck I had a good transmission with the V8 internals to put in the race car. Before I did though, I installed a stage 3 TransGo kit in it. This makes it Full manual shift, raises the pressure....etc. Installed a billet front band strut, and cut the case on the bottom front so I have a little window to get to the flexplate bolts and little easier. I also have a aluminum deep pan installed and the new 4000 stall convertor. Also my boss (Ryan) got me a really nice Summit hand crank engine stand for Christmas! It is really sweet to be able to spin things over easily at my advanced age!! :D :D

With the transmission all buttoned up I turned my attention to the race engine that has been sitting since early in the season when the oil pick up tube broke off. I dug out the external oil pump that I got and began to look things over and decide what I wanted mounted where. The location had to work with the new big tube Clifford race headers and the Webers that I will be installing. After I drew it out on my aluminum plate I went to town with my jigsaw and a couple new blades. It looked pretty good except for it didn't work as I had planned. So after a little more "ciferin" I cut out a second one that put everything just where I wanted it. Oil pump on D/S down low and Alternator stacked on top. There still may be enough room to fit in the electric water pump if needed. I still am waiting for a cast aluminum housing to allow us to use a big block electric water pump. :D :D I measured up for the length of hoses and AN fittings that I will need and will get them ordered shortly. Robbie, my welder/body guy will weld in a new oil pick up and AN fitting through the side of the oil pan and that will finish up the oil pump. When he comes to do that I will have him alter the two rear header tubes to fit with the Webers. Plenty of 1 5/8" mandrel bends are on hand for that already.

Last but not least was that I debated whether or not to leave the existing cam in the car or change it out. After talking with Lou, who has spent a good bit of time with Cameron Tilley, I decided to go ahead and install an upgraded cam. Dadtruck sold me a cam and oil pump and he graciously sent it directly to Oregon Cams for me and it should arrive at my house any day. Cam specs are Intake 268@ .050, .572 lift, Exhaust 260@ .050, .551 lift, LSA 106. This should work well with the Webers and hopefully push me closer to the 12's

Very exciting stuff, Rick! Wonderful craftsmanship too. Can't wait to see you running 12s next year (knock wood).
