I Have an 86 Toyota 1 ton 2 wd pickup. It has single rear wheels, and 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. Is this the rear you need measurements from?

Is it single rear wheel? 1 ton so it is a full floating axle? Yeah, that likely fits the description. I imagine that the leaf spring spacing would be the same on the different load rating axles.

My understanding is that 79-95 2wd single rear wheel axles are 56" wide, so I am curious on the leaf spacing. I keep finding conflicting info on the axles because most people are wanting the 4wd six lug axles instead of the 5 lug 5X4.5 axles from the 2wd trucks.

Mine is not the large full floater rear. It is the one that has the axle bearing pressed into the backing plate. Give me a day or so, and I will measure the spring perch distance.

Take as much time as you need, I am in no hurry. If it is a bolt in I will probably need a fresh set of pants. All the numbers I have seen make it look like a very good option. And thanks in advance.

This does look like a nice option. I would not mind relocating the spring perches if everything else has good locations/dimensions. I wonder what it weighs?

I will throw it on a bathroom scale when I get it. I would expect a weight of no more than a 8.75 since they are of similar designs. I will weigh it including the drums, but I plan on converting to disc before it ever lands under the car. There are many options for disc conversions using OE parts sourcing.

If anyone does go with the yota drums they should aware that the self adjusters are on the parking brake instead of the service brakes. When I worked at the yota dealer it was very common to have low brake pedal because of misadjusted rear shoes. Also the parking brake cable pivot is prone to seizing in climates where rust exists. I spent 2.5 years as a Toyota dealer tech and got to replace frames on tacomas, tundras, and 1 sequoia.

Boy, finding an 8" Toyota rear here is cake compared to old MoPar stuff.

Might be a real easy swap for the Valiant...

Looks like it won't be a direct fit for any normal width cars. I was hopeful that it would be very close. Looks like rewelding the perches is a must. And if I am welding perches I will be getting the offset shackle kit as well for just a little more wheel clearance.

Time to call the scrappers and see what is available and for how much. One of the bigger local yards has some listings for 2wd axles with 3.42, 3.58, and 3.73 ratios with and without ABS but no prices. I will likely get the ABS version if the price is the same. Never know when you might want a rear axle speed sensor for some reason. It would give me the option to go electric speedo a little easier.
