More progress!

Adam tacked in the subframe connectors.

I climbed in the trunk to get it open (about all I'm good for on this project, and since the keys were lost... )

Jason and Whitney drove all the way from the Atlanta, GA area to donate a racing seat, fuel cell and four speed floor hump! Thanks!!

PICS or it didn't happen...

File comment: Notice the thorough (not yet complete) undercoating scraping going on... It offsets the weight of the frame connectors... ;-)

Cool. See if the rules allow a sheet aluminum floor pan (pop riveted). That would also offset subframe conns. Let's keep it light! How big is fuel cell?

Roger that! Lighter is more gooder! I think the cell is 10-12 gallons. The seat is a Kirkey Fat Boy.

We're scrapin' all the undercoating we can outa this thing too. It was very well undercoated!

What is preferred for fuel cell location as far as weight distribution - lower but rearward (spare tire well area) or higher but forward (under the package tray)?

I'm just an old circle track racer but I vote low, behind the axle.

Low and rearward, for me. Need to get/keep weight toward the rear of the car for balance. I cut the spare tire well out of the two I have done and hung it just behind the shock mounts, flush with the original main floor. Watch for axle pumpkin and shock clearance.

This little dude used to be the shift knob on “El Toad” (62 Valiant wagon) daily driven by Dick Sappington (Old6rodder) out in California.

Thanks Dick!! :D :D

More progress on Toadracer over the last few days...

Adam got the new Corbeau racing seat tacked in place.
I prepped the floor edges so the new floor can be welded in.
Joe installed the LBP 7 1/4, did some engine diagnostics, figured out a potential way ahead on the transmission and installed new LCA bushings

That, my friends, tastes like progress to me! :D

Progress since the last post:

Joe went back over and added more leaves to the leaf spring pack to stiffen it up. He also got the front suspension mostly reinstalled with thicker .920 torsion bars. Just need a few cotter pins here and there and the shocks to have it ready to be on all four (LBP) wheels again. He also put fresh oil in (again) and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders. The carb on it now is beyond saving, so we will put another 1 barrel on it to get it started and diagnose the engine before trying to upgrade anything.

Adam finished welding in the seat mount.

I ..... Ummm... provided encouragement...
