What size straps, how many and where are you attaching to your cars when towing on a trailer? My trailer has for of those recessed D rings to strap to.

What I don't like about recessed D rings is if you look up their rating, it's not very high. At least the ones I've looked at.

I use two straps in front, two in back. Each is connected to a D ring that is rated (I think) 12,000lbs. These are the welded-on type. On my new trailer...the rear ones are bolted on so we'll see how that works.

I am more worried about the back tie-downs than the front....I'm probably not gonna accelerate the car off the trailer but I sure could emergency stop it off. I often will use a good old chain on one side in back as a dead stop. Nylon straps work great but they can and do stretch....especially when new.

I use the straps with captive type hooks so they can't come off the D rings even if they loosen up. I use over-the-axle straps front and back. I also make sure the car is in park/gear and if the e-brake works I set it, too.

I'm determined to never be that idiot you see, frequently, on the side of the highway wondering why his load vacated the trailer and if that state trooper is pulling over to help him reload it....

I used to cross mine on the rear, someone said, and it makes sense, if you do that and one comes loose it could put it to one side.
I strap the K if it has cone. Ditto on being in gear, I had a friend tow many miles till he asked his buddy, you tied the car down, didn't you...???

Chain from rear corner of trailer looped around pumpkin and back to other rear corner of trailer.

Car then pulled forward with crossing straps (chain around a-arms)

Go back to first picture. straps then attached to frame of car and rear of trailer.

Finally wood blocks screwed down to wood floor of trailer surrounding front wheels as wheel chocks.

I use 4 2" ratchet straps and 4 24" axle straps. On the front I put the axle straps over the strut rods as close to the K frame as possible. The other end hooks on loops welded on the front of the trailer.

On the rear Mike had loops welded on to the frame on both sides. I hook the ratchet straps on the loops, and hook the other ends to the axle straps that are looped around the ramp bar on my trailer. I do not cross straps, but Mike did.

The nice part about hooking to the strut rods and frame is that the car doesn't bounce on the trailer, making life easier on the shocks.

On my old Valiant I used axle straps and short chains to hook the rear axle to the D rings in my trailer floor. The bad part about that was if the car wasn't square on the trailer one chain would be loose.

Thanks for all the input guys. I used two 2 inch ratchet straps hooked to the k-frame and crossed with one 2 inch ratchet strap over the nose of the differential and hooked in d-rings on each side of the trailer. Car stayed very secure going and coming. I will probably add a chain to the rear next time.

I looped the straps through the k frame on the front and crossed the straps around the pumpkin at the back. With the car in neutral, tightened the front to get the car where I wanted it on the trailer, then ratcheted the rear set tight. Then put the car in park and set the e brake.
While I was at a T&T session a guy gave me a tip that I adopted.
Carry a roll or two of electrical tape and a box knife. Use a wrap or two of the tape to secure the excess strap and the ratchet clamp, have the box knife around to cut the tape loose when you unload. His comment was , electrical tape is cheap. It is an ez way to keep the loaded car neat and safe when being trailered.

2 on the rear axle. But fitted under the brake lines..

2 on the k frame on the a bodies on the front of the K .. Plenty of room there Sometimes if needed on the control arm.

Then some tie down straps...from those to the D ring or underneath to the edge or frame of trailer.

I Cross the Rear as there is plenty of access to do so on my trailer.

My D rings are welded to the Floor on a closed deck Steel Trailer.

I inherited my Grandfather's car.

I towed it from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles in 2002.

Only had 12200 miles on it when I got it.
