I just went through this as well. Both RockAuto and Amazon have the wrong image for the Cloyes S314 cam sprocket vs. what you actually get. If you want to dial in your cam timing with an offset bushing, you really need a hole for the pin rather than a slot like in the one pictured above.

If anyone knows of a manufacturer that still makes a single-row cam gear like in the below picture, I'd love to hear it. The last time I bought one that actually looked like this was a few years ago, and I don't remember where I got it.

I agree, the slot is kinda lame.

That said...there is nothing special about the slot or hole that is in the cam gear. You can always drill your own hole at a different location by jumping a tooth or two or three. However many teeth the cam gear has...that's how many places there are you could 'start over' by drilling a new hole.

The Rollmaster set uses a crank gear with different keyways to achieve adjustment, which for the sake of convenience makes it a nice set up. That is, once you make the crank gear fit the crank...

Much like the slotted gears your style of swiss cheeze gear was put in cloyes and dynagear sets for a few years, then replaced
by the slotted gear Matt noted.

Correct, just scribe it out and drill, easy to do.

That style sprocket is known for having the thin part of the spokes crack at high RPM,
I wouldn't trust any of the single chains to hold up to anything north of 4000 for long, or anything that has a sudden change of
rpm and applied torque..even the swiss cheeze version would bust a tooth pretty easily under heavy shifting with a manual tranny.

2 cents...

I have a friend who meticulously rebuilt with his uncle a 350 Chevy, race engine. It wouldn't start when the big day came. They messed around with it, all the usual stuff. Still wouldn't start. They deduced that even though they had carefully aligned the timing marks, they had inadvertently installed the cam exactly 180 degrees out and the ignition was firing when the piston was on TDC of the exhaust stroke. They tore the engine back down and rotated the cam 180 degrees and put it all back together. Around this time, I heard about it and told them you can't install a cam 180 degrees out, lol. Anyway, they eventually found some other problem and the engine ran.

Ordered the Rollmaster from JP today. Buy once and cry once, right?

I'm glad to hear Rollmaster has them. Just checked on Ebay and they're about $87. Not bad. I'm guessing they do have all the extra keyways in the crank gear like their picture shows?

I heard years ago that the timing chain and crank gear were the same as a big block mopar and that the cam gear was the same casting, just machined a little differently? Can anyone verify that?

$87 is less than they were a few years back and not much more than the factory double rollers were. That is a good deal IMHO. :D

The harmonic balancer is only $235. That's a good deal for an SFI rated one.

Wow, $87 is a great price. Same for balancer.

Yes, I'd already put one of their SFI rated balancers on the previous motor. It's getting moved over to the new crank.

I paid way more than $87 for the Rollmaster I bought a year ago. At under $100, they are 'the' chain to use.
