New brackets and race seat save me about 17#. Holes were drilled so Greg was happy!
In the background of photo 1 you see a gray hood? That was my fiberglass hood I dropped off to Robbie Friday morning at 8:00AM At 3:00PM he said it was ready for pick up.

After I got the seat finished, I remounted the hood and checked adjustment= Good. After it is painted (and on for good for a while) I plan to drill two 1/8" holes through the brackets as alignment holes. And then when it has to come off it will be really easy to line up.

I also made an aluminum hood prop and glassed a piece of aluminum into hood for it to hook into.

Hood is mounted and adjusted and the prop has been fabbed. It self locks in place over at the side without any problem. Since the corona virus has us shut down I might just pull the hood off for the last time and have Robbie paint it. Then it's done. I do have a tiny bit of the original paint left. I may have to have PPG do a color match and get another quart to put down as a base and then give the hood the final coat of base coat from the original I had left. that way it should be a perfect match.

Note that you can spend quite a bit of time (and added wt) to get the hood straight for body color paint. Painting is flat or satin black removes this need, and is the reason many of the factory or old school hoods were flat/satin black, and the ones on my Dart and Valiant. Also, if you drive long distances or get a lot of heat into it, it can warp a little over time. Just a thought...

Rick,
Did your hood come with reinforcements glassed in on the bottom or did you add them? I have a 'race weight' glass hood for my Belvedere. I got is used some years ago and it is pretty flimsy in spots. I am considering the addition of reinforcements to the underside. I spoke with some other racers and was told that I could cut up some Styrofoam pieces and glass them to the bottom to add stiffness. Does this seem viable to you?

I think Rick's VFN hood should have gussets and be plenty strong. You can add them as you say, with Styrofoam or maybe better would be the hot water pipe insulation foam. I have done this a couple of times, especially when I had some damage/cracking.

Great, thanks Lou. I will have a fiberglass bolt on scoop, but I figured I could still use some added stiffness as it is pretty thin and light.

I used to tell Robbie my stuff didn't need to be perfect. I gave up on that and now I just get out of the craftman's way!
I guess this will be Ok?? It looks as nice as the steel hood. I didn't expect much less!
