Hi all,

I have a 9.5 inch 122 tooth flywheel. Do I want the 10" clutch to go with that? I am specifically looking at the

LUK 05004 RepSetĀ®
10" Clutch; Lever Style

Found of Rock Auto. I used to work for the Schaeffler Group (LUK is affiliated with them) and I think it is a good compromise between quality and price. Thoughts?

Those are fine for stock applications. The scalloped clutch cover tends to fail around the bolt holes when abused.

I agree that LUK clutches should be good, but the kit that I got from RockAuto came with a throw out bearing that is a metal shell cased in plastic. After about 15k miles it delaminated and failed suddenly.
Drove home without a clutch,, found an all metal throw out bearing and all is fine.
That said there are probably millions of composite throw out bearings in use with out issue, however that composition adds one more failure mode

Either the small 9 1/4" or 10" clutch / PP will bolt to a stock Slant 6 flywheel / bolt pattern.
Yes, Get a metal TO Bearing and don't use that 10" clutch or pressure plate/cover in any high rpm - Over 5000 or High power applications.

They blow up.

Wow that is brutal. With that in mind is there one in the $200ish range that you would recommend? I'm not planning to race the thing, but may bump it a bit every now and then. It is a rat rod after all. I will definitively get the metal throw out bearing as well. I can't image they are too expensive.

Also, is the throwout bearing the thing the clutch fork hooks in to? I have something on my input shaft roughly halfway between the face of the transmission and the motor. There are two hook springs that my shift fork slots into.

If its a Light car and you live on the flatish areas Just get the 9 or 9.25" It should be fine.

That way you can rev it or drive like a crazy person as much as you want!

That is in my price range. I had figured there was only one size of clutch to go with my flywheel. What are the positives and negatives of having a larger or smaller clutch to flywheel ratio? Realistically, my goal is to make a neat cruiser that I can do some light off road trips in for Gambler 500 events. Reliability is the most important issue. My "performance" goal is to hold 65mph comfortably while driving on the highway.

That's fine but the Luk 05003 is the same 9.25" clutch and only $88.79 at Rock Auto. Ignore the description stating diaphragm spring.
