I'm weathering the storm in my hometown. On my private island the machine shop has been replaced by a yoga studio/yarn store. Can any PNW folks recommend someone in King, Pierce, or Kitsap to rebush my carb? 85 D150 non-electric 1bbl w functioning lean burn. Closest option so far is Carbs Unlimited in Auburn.

Do you have a drill press? Or even an electric handheld drill and a vise? If so, you can do it yourself!

you may have to cross drill a bushing for vacuum passages....
Of the last 2 times I had to have a carb rebushed, the one that was an older version of your same carb from a Volare, at the time I had a buddy who worked maintenance at a factory that had a full machine shop within the factory.... "gov't job".... I miss ol' Glenn working there... it was quite handy.
the last catbs I had to get rebushed were Thermo Quads. I sent the base plates to a guy who used to be well known for his tuning ability pertaining this particular series of carb and he did them for me...
Know of ANY industrial type machine shops? Non automotive would actually be best (at least around these parts) about any place with a Bridgeport or similar mill could do this, but it would be best to take just the base plate (bare) and the throttle shaft in there...…

Volaredon, my usual go-to is in Carburetor Refactory in Richmond, CA. The owner is regarded as a wizard with either thermoquad or quadrajet- I forget which. Even cooked up a replacement seal or adhesive for the ones with synthetic bodies.
Reed- Thanks for the link, thats interesting. The wizard led me to believe theres a "special" fixture to keep the carb base 90 degrees to the astral plane. I'll try your suggestion next time.

never heard of them, may have to remember them..... there used to be a big carburetor place juuust south of Chicago that my Dad used to use... Willy's carburetor and ignition... I haven't been by there since I 1st became driving age... I doubt they are still there. I've gotten parts there a time or 2.

I have been there a couple times. I would trust them to do it right. They have, or at least used to have, a HUGE storage room with shelves full of every kind of carb imaginable.

Slightly drifting off topic, but since some carburetor people are here on this thread: I'll be installing 3 Super-Six conversions in our family cars, and would like to bench-overhaul each carb myself. (I've done other carb's in the past.) Do you have any suggestions for the best brands of overhaul kits for the BBD's? Thanks.
(And now back to the main discussion...)

Thanks for posting that. I was thinking it was tricky like doing self-dentistry. I've read that some use silver solder to rebuild old carburetors.

I have seen some of the special reaming tools that self-align so you don't need any special measuring equipment to make sure the throttle shaft stays centered in the bore. You can find those reaming and bushing kits on eBay and Amazon for $30-$50. Just be sure to get the right size for your throttle shaft.
