1966 Valiant S6, AT.
noticed slight oil leakage on diff and wanted to check the oil level in it. but... I do not have a tool that will fit that dumb dirtyword thingy.... my T60 is way too small.... guess about a 5/8in size. something like a STAR drive female. what do I use to loosen that dumb plug?? stay safe

I believe it is just a 1/2" drive (square) socket wrench, or extension. Could be 3/8".

negative. 1/2 in went in a "bit", but then started to "round off", so I stopped. it looks like some
kind of dirtyword "star" ? tool. stay safe

The plug is 1/2" double-square. Many ratchets and extensions are too rounded on the end to easily remove the plug. If you have an old extension grind the end flat and you should be able to get the plug out. I was a Jiffy Lube 'tech' for my after school job about 30 years ago.

the 1/2in Ratchet I had used was a Craftsman... and it was already "flat" on the end.
so. guess I will use my common sense (who me who married the SAME woman TWICE?)
and take it to my mechanic. oh well, being as I am retarded I have plenty of time.

Just grab a couple-inch-long piece of 1/2" square bar stock from the hardware store. It has pointy corners and straight edges and will spin the plug in or out as you please.

willing to try it. I ruined a good Studebaker Avanti's diff by not checking the grease in it, which I also knew was "leaking" some. thanks stay safe. I attempted to place my photo on here but nothing happened. good ole MURPHY!!

Sometimes the plug itself is filled with crud that keeps the tool from fully engaging.
I always scrape it out with a little screwdriver or pick.

huh? use a propane TORCH with the gas tank some 3 inches away from the plug?? not me. I am 79yo (so far) and have had numerous episodes with MURPHY !!! thanks. stay safe

I had one that was badly stripped out, and was able to grab the edge of the plug with a sharp-toothed ViseGrip.
It mangled it a bit, but I already needed a new one anyway.
