The crank pocket can be made larger, but in my area, I couldn't find anyone to do it. Since the engine is going to be rebuilt, anyway, it might be easier to just swap in a 68-75 crank. That will be the forged crank, with the large crank pocket.

PS: The crank in your 76 engine could be either the forged, or cast crank, cast crank will not fit the forged crank block.

Doc, it's been almost four years since your last post on this thread. What did you do with your /6 A100. I specifically want to know if you were able to modify the crank of the early /6 to the 727. I am currently in your that situation.
The dude hasn't been on here since 5 Dec. 2016, what do you think? Good Luck with a answer!

You can machine the small crankshaft counter bore to the larger size, there is enough material to do that.
Or swap the crank for a later forged crank, with the bigger counter bore.

So one engine is April '76, and the other engine is Sept '64. The 727 fits the '76 engine. I can put the forged crank (from '68 to '75) into the '64 engine and it will fit the tranny in the truck.

How much larger does the crank pocket need to be enlarged (if I was to try to keep my rebuilt engine together)?

Thanks guys! (even 69a100-I could use a little luck). It's all about who's here, not about who's not here.

Gary

i've needed to do that before, had to put a 73 crank in a 63 block because of the torque converter. the engine wont know the difference. as long as it is a forged crank in a block designed for a forged crank.
