Lock-up vs non lock-up 904 for 1/8 mile strip? Can I get some input about making a decision for a transmission selection. I'm building a slant (original 225 engine) for my 65 Barracuda, head work, cam, four barrel, headers and a "little" NoS. The crank shaft pilot hole is being opened up to accommodate a newer 904. My cable shift 904 is not allowing me to do what I want to do. (I was going to install a 833 but decided to stay with automatic) The salvage yard where the newer transmissions are located, asked me if "I want a lock-up or a non lock-up?" I want to "occasionally" cruise the car and visit the local 1/8 mile strip. I know that cam choice, and a bunch of other factors come into play. The newer 904 will give me a bigger choice of torque converters and shift kits and shifters. I understand how the two different types of transmissions work. Recommendations: Lock-up or non lock-up?
Norm

Very hard to get a good high stall converter for a lockup 904. For your purpose, get a non-lockup. Best if 71 (or so) up as the kickdown circuit is better. You'll need slip yoke driveshaft too.
